    Default The Hundred Years War

I want to buy a book (or books) about this subject but I'm not really sure what book to buy.
Thought I found something good with the series 'The Hundred Years War by Jonathan Sumption' but in the reviews, it says it doesn't really say a lot about the battles itself.
I'm looking for a book that really describes the battles with soldiers, weapons, maps, tactics and so on. Not just a handfull of sentences about a battle...
There are so many 'great' battles in that war so if any of you has some good tips, please share.

    Thank you in advance.

Bernard Cornwells's Azincourt might be what you look for. It describes quite a few battles around the middle of the war including the famous Battle of Agincourt. As usual with Cornwell there is a great abundance of historical correct detail in equipment, tactics and characteristics. It also help that the main protagonist is a common English longbowman, thus the reader get a grounded down to earth view of the period from the bottom up.

Well when I was like 11 years old I really enjoyed the Thea Beckman trilogy Give Me Space, about an ugly looking Bruges girl who ends up among a troubadour group, and then sets out to France in the mids of the 100 years war.

The trilogy Geef me de ruimte (Give me space) – about the Hundred Years War between England and France
    • Geef me de ruimte (Give me space, 1976),
    • Triomf van de verschroeide aarde (Triumph of scorched earth, 1977)
    • Het rad van fortuin (Wheel of fortune, 1978)
I dont remember how much of that was battles, quite some, but the long storyline around Bertrand Du Guesclin where they encompany him was really lively. Coming to think of it, it had quite some cavalry tactics and also the Fabian Strategy he mastered in that storyline. Quite a badass of history. Also Charles of Navarre stands out as an archtype villain, which he was.

Its a book for teenagers, still a good read I guess though.

If you want a non-fiction book, check out Juliet Barker's books. She has a fantastic book on the Agincourt campaign, and a great history of the Hundred Years War.

If you ever find violence doesn't solves anything, you haven't used enough.

Bernard Cornwells's Azincourt is definately on my list.
The only 'downside' is that it's a big book.
It will take ages to complete .

Thank you all for the tips!

You should also check out the first three books in the Thomas of Hookton quadrilogy by Cornwell (Harlequin, Vagabond and Heretic) as they are all set in the hundred years war as well and are very good books.
