Spartan machairaphoroi

Why can´t they be recruited everywhere? Aren´t they profesionals, shouldn´t they work like in any other "greek" faction? Why only in greek colonies?
(I´ve asked this in the questions and suggestions thread without any answer, sorry for the "double posting", but of course my questions are the important ones).

Maybe it is trying to keep it historicly accurate. eastern levy spears arent profesional but you can still only get them in the east

First of all, thanks for the answer. What i found strange is that playing with pergamun or macedons i can recruit machairaphoroi everywhere (in britania, north africa, iberia, etc), but playing with sparta only in greek colonies. I know sparta is a "special" faction, but i can´t understand this.
