Try a Dell Inspiron 9300. I got one on EBAY (refurbished) for a cool savings. Plus when you buy refurbs you get the warranty like it was a brand new product. Ive never had any problems with my Dell computers.

    My Inspiron has 1GB RAM
    100 GB HD
    128MB ATI Radeon video card.

    Runs RTW smooth.

You can upgrade components. Just look online at EBAY or go to www.dell.com

Heh, I don't recommend getting any Alienware product. They are good, but WAYYY overpriced. Listen to Gaius Baltar and get a Dell, you can upgrade the video card on Dells too.

Buying a good notebook on the cheap is hard. The best bet is to buy a nice dell with large discounts.

Well, if you don't insist on 120 FPS, a X1300 can do a fairly decent job.

You don't need a SLI 7900GT to play the latest games, any mid range graphics card can handle all the latest games nicely.

    Dell.
    The XPS systems.

I am going to be getting a notebook soon too, but my budget is a bit lower than yours 1500-2000 $US. I am basicly going with the lowest base XPS system then adding what I need to it on their "Build" thing.

I can say that notebooks is not meant for games...Unless you want to pay $3000.0. or $2000.0

Yes, thats a big drawback for a notebook. You can get the same specs in a desktop for half the price.

I am really getting mine for school, and the upgrades are just things I am getting my parents to dish out for so I can play games too lol.

RTW is not going alright right now. Lag here and then in battles..And so I can actually play Oblivion later.

i'd prefer a desktop as well, but i have just moved to another country for job, so it would be easier to get a notebook than to get my desktop (which is outdated anyways) therem but i'll see. if i decide on a notebook it probably will be Dell

The Acer Ferrari Notebooks look slick, and would play pretty much any game on the market today. They are a tad pricy, starting around $2000, however.

I'm just wondering, for a labtop, what is the recommended about of Ram video card wise? I'm looking at a Dell XPS and kind of want to keep the price down. Also, do you know if there’s any way I can like not have them put a virus system in? I only ask because my university makes it mandatory that all computers on campus have Norton anti virus...And dell has McAfee anti-virus =(

Ouch. Both are bloated resource hogs. You can always uninstall Mcafee when you get your computer. I know that I did. The process was easy and seamless. You could always try calling and asking them if you can have it shipped without Mcafee.

One gig of ram usually gives the best bang for your buck, but if you're looking to future-proof, definitely go for 2 gigs. That seems like a lot now, but it won't be in a year or two.

Slightly off-topic: I know this is no help to you Major, but if you're looking for a firewall and anti-virus solution that doesn't use too many resources and isn't expensive, just download AVG Free edition, and ZoneAlarm's free firewall. I use both and have not had any virus or hacking problems for a year and a half. I also didn't have to pay 40 dollars for them.

Hmm, I was wondering what the amount of Ram for a video card is recommended? The labtop that I'm looking at has the option between 256 and 512....

@ Lee- I'm not exactly sure, but I'm thinking that in order to use the network, one needs to have Norton.....Not exactly sure, but it’s the policy of UWSP... ugh
