Default Study suggests Roma faces discrimination in West Europe

I thought discrimination is not supposely existed in Free Europe, or that was what those French claimed?

Roma (or Gypsy) communities in Western Europe often face similar levels of discrimination as their counterparts in Eastern Europe, according to a new report by the EU and UN.

The report said the situation of the Roma is on average worse than their non-Roma neighbours when it comes to jobs, education, housing and health.

The survey interviewed 22,203 Roma and their non-Roma neighbours.

Those surveyed resided in 11 EU countries with large Roma populations.

Joking aside, it seems Roma has been on the bottom of society in Europe for centuries, and I wonder why such situation remains even today? Clearly it is not just about social discrimination but there must be some cultural value of Roma that causes their present situation.

Well their reputation haven't exactly improved with thousands of gypsies coming from Eastern European countries that have entered the EU in recent years, hell every other beggar here is a Romanian gypsy and they make their children beg as well.

On the title of the things I think I say:

Its true, they are absolutely discriminated against. Every europeon i've talked to whenever Gypsies have come into a conversation I always hear negative things about them.

The last guy I talked to said he want into Prague and was mobbed by a gypsie family and one of them said "Take my baby" and like thrust a baby onto his hands while their children picked his pockets clean. My uncle went to Russia and the Russians all told him before he got off the bus from the airport by the tour guides to watch for people like gypsies boiling down to "they WILL rob you".

I did meet some American Gypsies and they were nice and not any different than any other immigrant but then these people who tell me gypsie stories say they are "not real gypsies".

There was this Bulgarian guy I talked to once that had the most ridiculous stories I have ever heard and he seemed extremely racist towards them and this Czech friend of mine that I went to high school with (who has since moved back) is the guy who told me the "take my baby" story and had a few others.

I have only talked to eastern europeons about gypsies really. I can't say I recall a western europeon talking about them but I don't meet any of them often and the RAF people I worked with the topic never came up.

There's quite a bit to be said about the topic. Certainly Gypsies in some places are discriminated against and exploited by the majority, or by other minorities, but the core of the problem is their own attitude. They would face less discrimination if they sent their children to school (instead of having them beg in the street) and took up decent jobs.

I want this topic to grow so I can see if Gypsies are OK to discriminate against on this forum or if people will disagree with you because all these traits I see so far can be applied to other minorities in any country that you can't talk bad about because its "racism". I wonder why Gypsies are the exception?

Its been the fact in past Gypsie threads on this forum. Now that I say this i'm sure I might derail it, contaminating the experiment if you will.

They are low lifes that just attack people for the fun of it if they are in superior numbers and cause damage to people's vehicles and steal.

I am surprised the civilized states of Europe allow them to live in their nations and not send them back collectively to India their home land.

I don't think you needed a study to confirm this, to be honest.

It is people who carry these attitudes, not nations or groups, hence...

Central Europe's reputation has improved in one respect, they haven't committed any genocidal act on Roma since 1945.

Roma are facing discrimination everywhere. This is a combination of prejudice in societies, the poverty in their communities and their problematic integration in the society.

Civilised Europe should take a lesson from the USSR and simply mass-deport them.

In Macedonia we love their music and they have a reputation for being a musical and festive people.

Esma Redžepova (Macedonia's most famous Roma folk singer) features in this song by Kiril Dzajkovski (around 2:05), funny thing being that it's an electronic/modern song, which is a bit out of her style.

Macedonia has enacted policies, centered around education, which have worked to some extent. We now have a Roma minister in government, a few Roma members of Parliament, and more Roma university students. The situation obviously isn't close to being solved, but things are getting better and change is possible. If you offer a Roma a job and education, he won't turn you down. The problem is the opportunities are lacking and they often aren't equipped to take advantage of them. The government needs to take an active role in this.

    Ship them to Israel.
Once a political decision has been reached to proceed with internal disturbances in Syria, CIA is prepared, and SIS (MI6) will attempt to mount minor sabotage and coup de main [sic] incidents within Syria, working through contacts with individuals. Incidents should not be concentrated in Damascus. [A] necessary degree of fear, [...] frontier incidents and [staged] border clashes [will] provide a pretext for intervention. The CIA and SIS should use [...] capabilities in both psychological and action fields to augment tension. [Funding should be provided for a] Free Syria Committee [and arms should be supplied to] political factions with paramilitary or other actionist capabilities.
