It has been a good day, dear Sirs and Madams. Yes indeed.
So good in fact, I almost expect to see that Steam has finally been made optional!

There are things you can do if you want to decrease the memory usage but let me finish downloading it first to see if the config files are where I remember them!
I will make a very massive map, with eight armies with 40 units in each, and 3x unit sizes.
I will call it, Total war.............
Well...I can only use the editor on my laptop, which can run shogun 2 just fine on medium settings.
In the editor however I get a maximum of 4 fps, which makes any work impossible and I can't seem to find a way to save the lower settings for the editor.
Any help?

Prof: I suspect that the editor is running with high quality settings. In about an hour, I should have it on my machine and will be able to test this and hopefully find the config file for setting the quality level to medium or low.
Off the top of my head though - have a look at settings->startup settings (sorry if this is incorrect) and tell me what the settings are. You should be able to right click on the 'startup settings' item and copy the contents to the clipboard, IIRC.
Haha the ted is working great! Thank you!
I found the editor's preferences script and set everything to low...I still only get 4 fps though...

TEd is great, but is it just me, or does everybody get a CTD after a (custom)battle after playing your TEd created map?
Well, I'd say that for editing a game as big as a TW title, the beefier the better. That said, I'm running on a laptop so I'll see if my mileage varies! If I find a way to increase the FPS, I shall let you know.
This might sound rather silly but where is the editor located?
Prof, are you running on a 32-bit operating system? There are some known issues with performance and stability on those platforms.
One workaround you could try is to move some of the brushes out of the brushes folder and see if that makes a difference. TEd loads all the brushes in on startup, and they're fairly expensive in terms of graphical memory, so try reducing their number, or using TEd on a 64-bit system.

Gah, my internet connection is being so slow - TEd - 81%...
If you can get access to the 'EditorBrushes' directory (no idea if that's in a pack file or not), you can add and remove brushes as you like. If there are some big ones in there (1k*1k is big) then they will eat up memory and decrease start up performance.
Hi Craig, hope this is OK to share.
I'm using the 64-bit version of Windows 7 home premium.
I have just tried removing some of the brushes, but I didn't get any performance boosts.
I noticed however that even though I changed the values in the preferences script and although the changes appear in the editor's options menu, stuff like grass and shadows still gets rendered.
Well...I'll be off now...maybe I or somebody else will find a way tomorrow...otherwise I can just plan maps for now and make them on my PC at home during weekends.

Is it just me, or am I the only one that loves TEd using around 2.5gb of my RAM ? Apart from a somewhat lengthy freeze when I undo something, the program runs pretty smooth .

Does anyone know how to look up and down -___-
and how to rotate buildings . it's really annoying me
Hmmmm Right now I am trying to create a really crazy, but awesome castle, but it seems that green verticle arrow on the select tool is nonfunctional........Is it possible to change the Z-axis location of a building object?
Z and E to move the camera up and down. Alt + hold the middle mouse button and manipulate the mouse to move a loosened camera around .
Hold alt and move your mouse to manipulate it. If you can't move it anymore, release and re-hold the alt and move the mouse again .

Hyzoran - yes, if you select the building in object select mode you can use the 3D cursor or you can enter its position numerically using the property panel on the right.
