    Default Generals Remarry?

    Hi all

Simple query really - When a wife of a character dies can he remarry or is that it? I notice that you don't get offered a suitable wife but i wondered if they can marry a princess?

Would've been awesome if they could though, just imagine the dynamic family tree we could've had and then children with epithets "the Bastard" lol.

Why would having children with a second spouse (after the first one died) lead to bastard children? I think they'd all be legitimate. (I mean, maybe you could have bastard family members other ways, but I don't think remarriage after a spouse's death would do it.)

There were a lot of problems with this sort of thing in medieval times, previous marriage had to be Annulled & then the catholic king could remarry with papacy's blessings. Often children didn't get declared as the rightful heir for the crown. This would've added some interesting twists and some amount of roleplay in medieval 2.

I thought that that was only if the husband wanted to leave his current still-living wife and marry a new one. Were there cases where the wife died, and the widower was prevented from remarrying by the need to have his marriage annulled?

Yes that was the case as it's "Until death do us apart". So he can remarry if her wife dies. However in medieval times killing wives from nobility could've been a diplomatic suicide as it might spoil relations with the nation where she was from.

So that's why kings or nobles looked for annulment via papacy.

This is why the British monarchy became protestant and the Church of England was established - because Henry VIII couldn't get an annulment! - and also why his wives met their end on the chopping block.
