ORBIS-Travel in the Roman Empire
The link to this fantastic site was found by SeniorBatavianHorse, one of the best mind in the Galaxy!, and posted by him in IBFD Forums (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=538651)! Then another great mind of the Galaxy, Ybbon, reminded it to me!, and then, I decided to offer this source to your attention here in RSII Forum!
What is Orbis? Orbis is a program, by Stamford Geospatial Network, that, using very detailed maps and scientific calculations, offers a model of the times of the travels in the Roman Empire! You start from the city you that want, then you write the name of the city you want to reach, and the program give you the way and the times needed and, most important, the cost of the travel!
You have to choose what kind of travel you want to do, the means of locomotion (oxen, cart, orse...), and if you want travel on sea and use rivers!
It could be very useful for AARs and to have an idea of the times and distances in the Roman world, and probably it could be useful also for modders when the problem is to set the movement distances per turn in relation to the times (times = turns = distances
...I like 4turns per year!
).So if someone finds interesting and/or useful Orbis please give +rep to 1)SeniorBatavianHorse 2)Ybbon 3) and Diocle o.c.! (
)
LINK TO ORBIS:

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: Orbis works only with the last version of Internet Explorer (8?) which works only with Vista or Windows 7! So if you have, like me, Win XP install Mozilla Firefox or something similar, and you'll be able to travel in the Ancient Roman Empire!

Re: ORBIS-Travel in the Roman Empire
Exemple: A travel from the city in which I live Genoa, to Londinium:
Month: April.Using a civilian fast carriage. Main stages of the journey: Ticinum, Augusta Praetoria (Aosta) 4 days, Aventicum, Argentoratae (10 days), Divodurum (12 d.), Durocortorum (15 d.), Samarobriva (17 d.), Londinium 21 days for 1409 Km.!!! It is fast!!
For a trip of the duration of 21 days I paid 1835,87 Denarii, three years of Stipendium of a Roman Auxiliary Horseman belonging to the Equites Alares!..
..quite expensive but not so much if you have the money and the business that supports your motivation!

Re: ORBIS-Travel in the Roman Empire
My dear Ferdiflavius, this time I can swear that I understood what you said, even if my English is what you already know! And again I can only say that more links are better than no links! I did not notice that it was already posted, here the posts run very fast in second and third page! Now what I can do? 1) Kill myself, for the dishonour? 2) Delete the thread? Impossibe and I do not want! 3) Emigrate in distant lands?..but where? 4) Delete the first post? but why? it is so interesting!...so I'll remain here, in the shame and dishonour, but maybe someone could find this thread interesting! And this is the real important thing for me!

Re: ORBIS-Travel in the Roman Empire
I didn't say you should do anything. I was simply informing you that there was a previous thread.
