    Default !!!ADMINS PLEASE READ!!!

    Hello there.

    Foreword:
I've had and also read a lot about campaign map CTD's so far. It happens like every 60 turns to me and is, mostly or like 100% caused by the Macedons ( why is that ? ). It got really annoying to always start a new campaign so i searched the forums and found this thread where "frozen" did a great job solving the problem:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...t=campaign+ctd

Unluckily, it is not in the STICKY yet. So i suggest to either add this one or mine, of course with the credits for this belonging to the user frozen or whoever found this trick out.

HOW TO END CTD'S THAT ARE CAUSED BY A BROKEN CHARACTER/FACTION

First thing you need to do is to find out when and where the CTD happens. So what you start with is "toggle_fow" ( if youre not using it/ the command lets you see the entire map). After that is done, go to "Game options" and enable "Show AI moves".

    DO NOT
speed up your game ( you can do this if its the 2nd or 3rd < time you need the "replay" (end of the round) to figure out, which "broken character" causes the crash.

When you found the charactermove that causes the CTD (it can be more than one!), there is two possibilities:

    1. You can see the Character because he is either standing on a plain or attacking a city and you can therefore read his name right on the campaign map.

    2. You can NOT see the charatcer because he is either hiding in a forest/ being moved as a "new captain" out of a former army/ he has been in a city ( to me it seems that its mostly Family Members that cause the CTD's so that "new captain" thing is rather unlikely).

    I. How to find out the characters name if he is "hiding" and how to solve this:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1. reload your game
    2. activate the script as always ( because if the following fixes the bug, you want to keep on playing)
    3. place your cursor on the campaign map beside the location, where the character might hide!
    4. type in the console "show_cursorstat"
4.1 i HIGHLY suggest you always have at least one spy eventhough you "dont need them"
    5. take one of your spies ( if you dont have any, take a family member) and type in the console:
"move_character "Name" x,y" to move him to the coordinates you found out with "show_cursorstat"

DO NOT use a family member or general of yours that is placed in a city. The game will otherwise "create" a ghostversion of the character ( which means that you cant see him on the campaign map and they also are very bugged when it comes to battles....)

The hidden character/the one in a city should now be seen if you placed your spy/family member besides. So if you can see his name now, skip my instruction to II. !

DO NOT move an AI character out of an city unless that causes the same "ghostbug" as with your character as i desrcibed above.

To stop the AI character that is hiding in a city from causing the CTD i recommend to attack it, so that he wont move ( you can also kill him instantly if you have any siege weapons with yours BUT PLEASE, give the city back to its former faction afterwards and maybe reset the diplomatical situation) !

II. How to "remove" the character from causing the CTD by moving him to another position:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1. place your cursor somewhere on the map
    2. type in the console "show_cursorstat"
    3. type in the console "move_character "Name" x,y" where x,y are the coordinates you just found out and Name is the Name of the "broken" character to move him to any location. I suggest to use the "Terra Icognita", best would be somewhere in Norway or Sweden because they wont be able to come back from there. Keep in mind that this eases your game unless the AI will get a lack of its military power by loosing one of its family members!

You will also do step 1 and 2 of I.

    Last but not least:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

If the character has an epithet, go to programs>The Creative Assembly>Rome-Total War> data or whereever you installed RSII at and open the "descr_names_lookup" with wordpad. Search for the epithet by pressing "strg+f" and type in for example "of_Pherae". You will ALWAYS need to use the english version of the word "of", no matter if you are using a translation for your RSII or not.
Use the "move_character" command as the following for example
    "move_character "Aeaces of_Pherae" 300,100"

Leave the "" out of every command you type in the console.

    ENJOY=)

The cloned characters ctd is well known, and RS does everything possible to prevent it from happening. Nevertheless, once you have two cloned characters, the campaign is worthless. They are bound to die eventually, and then you will get inevitably a ctd.

The solution you propose only postpones the ctd, but it doesn't solve it. Characters die naturally, too, and then your game ctds.

I am surprised though that you even have this problem, AFAIK the cloned characters bug only appears if a general is spawned by the script - and the background script of RS2 is made the way it can't occur.

Could you post a save where you have this problem?

    I see no save.

But keep in mind, it is just as far as I know. I can very well be wrong. But either way you didn't fail, it is always good if different people present different solutions.
