Yes. The battle experience is the number of chevrons you have.
Each chevron gives +1 morale.
Each type of chevron gives +1 attack and +1 defense in vanilla (but in Kingdoms, only +1 defense). So 1 bronze chevron is +1 attack/defense over no chevron, and 1 silver is +1 attack/defense over any bronze. 1 bronze and 3 bronze are the same in attack/defense stats (and similarly, 1 gold and 3 gold are the same).

I'v heard stuff about there possibly being morale/stamina bonuses as well, no evidence though.

I thought it was a multiplier bonus, since it may be more than just attack/def.
Does anybody have tips on how to get a high xp unit (without cheating) with more than just a few guys left in the unit?
Seems whenever I get silver-chevrons or let alone gold-chevrons, theres only 5-15 guys left in a unit. Example armored/noble swordsmen.
By the time they are high xp, there are almost none left and I have to send them half way across the board to retrain.

The best strategy is the take advantage of the merge and retrain exploit. For example, if the unit size is 60 men, and you have two high xp units of 30 and 31 men, merge them to form units of 1 man and 60 men. Then, send the 1 man unit back to the castle to retrain the unit to 60 men.

Re: Can i increase a unit stats getting from battle experince?
Some of the higher level training buildings also give extra chevrons, so new units built there already have some chevrons and if a unit has not already trained there they can go back and get more. I always thought you get a bonus for every three chevrons, not one for each (there seem to be endless arguments about that). Yes, the larger the unit, the more difficult it is to get chevrons, as it is an average of the whole unit. So if you have some small remnant units they can do well by being kept back until the pursuit phase, then releasing them to capture routers and thus more chevrons. Individual members of a unit may have experience but no chevron is granted until a high enough proportion of the unit has experience. So it matters which way round you do the unit merge.
