RTW encountered an unspecified error and will now exit

Hi, when i try to run Rome - Total War, i get this error "Rome: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.
Can anyone help me out ? I've already had Rtw installed once, but i reinstalled windows XP, becouse I kept getting pop ups, and now it just doesnt work. I've looked through most of the forum, but I can't seem to find threads about this specific problem.

Now you mean you have RTW installed and you cant get it to work? If that is the case the try reinstalling it.

yeah, but i've already reinstalled it several times, and I keep getting that error, I was thinking it perhaps had something to do with me not uninstalling it properly, because as I said earlier, i've had it working just fine before I reinstalled my Windows XP. I've had no mods installed either.

Did you delete the Activision folder when you uninstalled?

Yes. I'm pretty sure i removed all files connected to the game..

does it mess up during installation or after it is completely installed?

I just brought rome total war then tried to run it and got that error message so i unistaLED AND INSTALED AGAIN WITTH GAMESPY DIRECT X AND MEDIA FINGY only to find that it still wouldnt work so i did that thing about downloading the audio driver and it still pops up with the same message :@
plz help

Ive also just started having this problem.
I also cant find where to download the Realtek AC97 drivers but keep getting redirected to a different site where it wont let me download it.

This is the first time this has happened and it happens to all the expansion packs as well.

Ive uninstalled and reinstalled them twice to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated

I run the game on a Laptop where I had it installed also and it runs perfect, so it's not a read problem from the DVD.

Sorry for my bad English,but found the solution. It happend to me everytime my mediaplayer updated to mediaplayer11. So go to config/ software, desinstall wm 11. It will ask you to install the previous version,click yes, reboot, reinstall the game, works perfect. Next time mediaplayer will tell you there is an update. DON'T UPDATE.
