    Default Skipping

I don't know if it's a TE thing or pc issue, but since this is the versioni of RTW I'm playing now I'll post it here in hopes of a response.

Basically after a while of playing the game, it starts kind of skipping, both on campaign map and battle map. It's pretty constant too. When I open scrolls it'll be extra fast, and it's just a general nuisance. Now I know it can't be that the pc specs aren't good enough because I'm playing on a brand new setup, with above recommended specs. Anyone had any experiences with this?

Well my mod does not require better specs to play, as im playing on a min spec pc myself. The only problem ive ever had with my mod is a virtual memory is low message on exiting the game after playing for a while, but thats just my comps min spec. I would recommend making sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Oo, thanks for the lighting speed response. Are the drivers related to virtual memory? Besides updating, how else can I retain more virtual memory?

Well virtual memory is the message i get when i quit RTw, it gives a little button on the taskbar saying it is being enlarged, i do not think that is your problem. Downloading the latest graphics card drivers generally helps fix problems.

Do you by any chance have a dual-core CPU, seeing as it is a brand new setup?

If you do have a dual-core CPU, there is a thread about a solution for the problem at heavengames.com:

Thank you so much! I had a funny feeling it would be because of the dual core setup. I appreciate your help guys, thanks. On to 5.1!

how much ram do you have lusted? cuz if you have at least a gig you should get rid of virtual mem. slows your comp down.

I only have 512MB of RAM, and I never and I never get a "virtual memory low" error, even after playing RTW for a whole day. Then again I have 3512MB of virtual memory.

If you have two harddrives, you should set the virtual memory on the one which doesn't have the OS installed on it. You will get relatively large performance boost that way.

@Lusted:Why don't you increase the size of your virtual memory, and make it a fixed value. If windows has to resize the virtual memory while your playing a game, it has a significant impact on performance, thus, if your virtual memory is a set value, windows can't resize it and you won't get the performance hit.

OK, go to Control Panel -->System--> click on the "advanced" tab-->select "settings" of performance-->select "change" in virtual memory-->then select the drive you want change the memory on.

Select custom size, and make the size 1.5 to 2 times more than your physical RAM, in your case:at least 384MB, but more is better .

If you have to drives, select a custom size on each of the drives, and don't make the virtual memory on the OS-drive too big.

    Hope that helps.

No problem, twice the amount is enough I think , my 3000MB virtual memory is probably overkill, but what the heck, I've got the space.

I think you will see an improvement when you play, but if you do not, don't fear, because there will be a definitive improvement

3000MB!!! thats the most i've heard a person use! you should be like the king of virtual mem! =P

    Heh

It was set at 4000MB, but I needed some space so I lowered it. I guess 3000MB is still a little bit overboard, but I have lots of space to spare, so I figured, what the hell, made it 3000MB.

Don't know if there is a performance gain, but everything is working well sofar

I have also shutdown a number of unneeded services that uses quite a lot of RAM, I gained about 40-50MB of RAM, doesn't seem like much, but I noticed the difference. Now I don't know how much you about these stuff, but I just want free myself from any liabilities from any damages you might incur. I have no reason to believe that any of this can cause damage, nothing has happened to my PC sofar, but you never know.

Go to Start--> Run--> type in "msconfig" --> click on the "services" tab.

    Now look at this website

Those are the services you can shut down. I didn't shut down all of them, for example anything with network in it I didn't deactivate, but things like smartcard and uninterruptible power supply I don't use, so I shut those down. So you will have to use your discretion about which services to shutdown. You could also google the services, there are a lot of sites that tells you what each service does and whether it is essential and so forth.

So on the services tab just remove the ticks of the services you don't want to be able to start when the computer starts, click OK and restart the PC if you want to.

You can also go to the "startup" tab and prevent some programs from starting when windows does, for example "adobe speedlaunch"

There you go, oh and don't disable the "windows installer" service, otherwise you are gonna have to start the service before you can install something that uses the windows installer.

If you need any help with the services and such, I'm here to help.

    Good Luck
