    Default A few questions...

So, been playing around this a bit, I am over 120 turns into my France campaign...

First, I'd like to ask about two military academy units. I've heard here and there around forums that Demi Lancers are good, but their stats seem worse than chivalry knights. Is there something about this unit that makes it good, or is it just more cost effective than knights? Second...I've been using dismounted chiv knights as "assault" troops to complement pikemen. But again, I've heard that twohand weapon units are buggy, and actually worse than weapon+shield units. Is this true, because I'd be using NW cuirassiers instead.

Second, what's with all those troops that are recruitable in custom game but not campaign? I already got gunpowder units available, but could never recruit dismounted french archers or voulgiers....

Next problem is Explorer's guild. As soon as it was possible, I've built a cog and sent it to southeast corner of mediterran, another to southwest corner of map, and over time I've added one more to the area to build up points. I got guild early on, but can't upgrade it even with three separate fleets farming points this way. Is it because I haven't done any guild missions, cause they wanted me to start a war where I didn't want yet, so I got three failed missions?

And finally. Town growth, it seems too fast to me. I had first huge city just 30 turns into campaign (Paris, and it was max taxed the whole time). Intentional or something weird?

    1. I think Demi Lancers are just a late Mailed Knight, they are faster than normal heavy knight so you can use them to chase enemy general. The other good thing is that they can be recruited in cities with academy.
    2. I think the 2-handed troops bug is fixed in KGCM
    3. You can toy with the EDB file in the data folder to make them available in the campaign as well, it is quite easy and it won't effect your game ( you will have to start a new campaign though)
    4. Sr I don't know much about these guilds thing, I think they are quite random to me

So the unobtainable units are intentional? I was wondering about that...

As for guilds, there's a good guide here on forums, and based on that I should already have points for HQ, but I got just normal level.

About the unit, like I said you can always put them back in the game. It is quite fun to recruit all the French knights instead of just Chivalric Knights.
About guild, what should I say. I recruited lots of merchants in Dublin in my last English campaign and finally I've got a HQ in Edinburgh while there was only a lvl1 merchant guild in Dublin

I swear that there is some queue with the cities or some random factor, because I have spammed swordsmen and built blacksmiths everywhere and the AI always has swordsmith guilds by turn 50 or soon thereafter and I can't get one before 60 or closer to 70. Then I start getting them at a lot of new fortresses. As many points as I have earned for the swordsmith guild I would think that I would be offered one as soon as I get my first fortress.

I can't see how Paris ever grows or makes money. Maybe if it is your capital (for the French it will do well), but I always find that it is one of the sorriest cities in the west. When I capture it I do not waste a lot of resources building it up. Better to convert Metz and mine florins.

You got swordsmith offered in fortresses? I only have them and the horse breeder offered in cities though

Swordsmith guild can be in cities or castles. You gain points for building armorer and barracks lines, and for recruiting advanced infantry.

Weird tho, AI appears to only build thief guild here. And Paris is stable at over 40k population, so it's definitely not a bad city. Difficulty perhaps? I took medium for first playthrough.

On my turn 88 Paris had only 22577 population on Hard strategic difficulty.

If I'm not mistaken, on Hard, AI develops slower. As for Paris not generating money, here we have two different situations. In my case, it's a gold mine.

Depends of course how you build it. In M2TW, I do a pop sprint, building full farm line and decent town hall line before doing anything else.

Paris isn't that unrealistic as it was the largest city of Europe in medieval times. About the guilds: a higher level of guild requires an upgraded city. Missions do have a considerable impact. Also: you can have only one upgraded guild of every kind in your entire nation. This probably explains the Dublin-issue.

I can not think of a capital which develops slower/has lower population than Paris (probably Lithuania's). I have captured Metz turned it into a city and it grows rapidly and easily makes more money than Paris. Caen can be turned into a city and soon catch up and pass Paris (on Hard and Very Hard levels). I do not remember how well Paris grows when one plays as the French as it has been at least a couple of years since I played as France.
