    THE NEXT INVASIO BARBARORUM!!!

(Posted by Asterix on behalf of R G y G)

Invasio Barbarorum, (AKA Invasio Barbarorum:Flegellum Dei, IBFD, IBFG) is a mod for BI 1.6 based on a timeframe close to the original BI. The mod starts at 410 AD, it is the year when the Romano Britons declared their independence from Rome, when the usurper Constantine III held all of Gaul, when the Visigoths sacked Rome, when the Vandals/Alans/Suebi reached Iberia. Interesting times, indeed.
In the face of all the Barbarian hordes, will you lead the Western Romans back to the glory that it once was? or will you choose to be a usurper, trying to steal an Empire from the arms of a weakling? Will you be one of the Germanic tribes starting to smell the death throes of an empire. Will you prefer to be in the east as the Sassanids, a very poweful empire threatened by both Rome and a new menace? or will you choose to be the Huns, a confederation of many peoples all with bloodlust in their mind.
This is Total War! This is INVASIO BARBARORUM!

Horde Factions: the Vandals in Iberia, the Visigoths on the outskirts of Rome, the Huns in the Bosphorus/Sarmatia, the Hephthalites in Bactria/Sogdiana.

Looks excellent, but the White Huns, should not literally look white. They should look more or less just like the other huns, with the possiblity of looking slightly more chinese looking.

And, as I was looking in the other thread I noticed this.

That middle shield is definatly my work. I remember taking a wooden texture and then turning it around(also some retexture work) so that it would look like wooden planks. Then I took a Celtic Design from some Celtic tattoo site thing and pasted it on there as to look like shield paint.

I have no problem with you guys using it, but Im baffled as to how it got there. Unless of course some random chance in hell we made the exact same shield. If not then I better get proper credit for all my contributions to this mod.

Thank you! And everyone who worked on my mod after I took a break from modding. I am charmed by your work.

Sadly, I don't have abbility to test it myself as I had broken my BI disks, but what I had seen here is enough to make me feel satisfied.

whether they were sinitic of chinese origin - Asterix (removed accidental innapropriate term) or not is subject to debate. the coins they minted, for example, show a very un-'sinitic' face
and the only other picture of a hephthalite warrior/noble that is clearly labelled as a hephthalite show him as being very caucasian:
If anybody any other info on the hephthalites, they would be most welcome, as information and especially pictorial references on them are very meager :original:

I got the shield from Arthurian:Total War (with permission) as of the present am only crediting the main sources, as the contributors are so numerous :original: Please feel free to remind me if I fail to credit you in the final credits :original:

tyhank you :original: without your previous work, none of this would have been possible. I still use your models/textures as basis for most of my work

Last week I had asked myself if somebody was doing a mod during the 410s timeframe. An interesting period indeed and one that should bring Rome more of a struggle than the original BI timeframe.

From the pride and arrogance of the Romans nothing is sacred. But the vindictive gods are now at hand. On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory (Boudiccas Speech, Tacitus, Annals, XIV, 35)

if you have BI v1.6 and you have installed IBFD plus the quickfix, it's pretty much just like that. just start your BI. you'll know it's the mod because the splash screen declares it so.

Some suggestions - but please DONT delay release becasue of them.

How about: Caius Brittanicus' idea of army symbols instead of banners to increase importance of spies and assassins? (one of the advantages of virtual communities - rapid exchange and implementation of ideas!)

Can horde function be used to simulate refugees fleeing from enemy after city is sacked etc? Could refugees work in same way as enemy army in your territory - in other words ravaging local economy - give choice of either settling them in your cities or slaughtering them - but lose influence if you do the latter?

Is it possible to do "field negotiations" with enemy in TW engine - in other words, before a battle starts, local commanders have choice to negotiate to either buy off enemy or retreat from sige etc etc?

    Keep up the good work!

hmmm, am not sure what you're trying to suggest here, since it is a banner you do not know the faction? or you do not know the strength? interesting suggestion either way, though.

unfortunately am not a very accomplished coder nor do we have a coder in our team, seems also to be a very good suggestion, though. I like the refugee as ravaging economy idea...

    I doubt this is possible

they will be the leader pics, the pictures that you see when choosing the campaign (actually not present in vanilla BI) not the in-game pics

    Hi Ramon

Thanks for the prompt response - I also like your strategic thinking re the balancing of factions and strategic gameplay very much indeed eg ER is not overpowered but Sassanids were underpowered. Also look at terrain of Sassanid empire especially east of Mesopotamia - very long lines of communication which means very difficult to concentrate troops and effort - this is realistic for Sassanids and ERE.

Another suggestion re this - giving especially small factions like Armenia some depth - they were difficult to conquer and hold because of mountainous terrain etc - but do they not deserve more cities if possible but with small surface areas?

re banners - yes the idea is to replace the banners which indicate strength with icons or whatever which just represent an army whatever its size - this will add to deception and increase importance of deploying spies - this is especially important with 4tpy in my opinion.

Please note this is not my idea but that of Caius Brittanicus of "Crusades". He also has modded the nature of settlements - some are strongholds for military orders which contain only military buildings - in any case - is it possible to play around with forts in BI engine - eg different levels and sizes etc to give morre depth to factions.

back to Armenia - a city surrounded by forts or at critical geographical chokepoints filled with troops would be a good idea to give such a faction greater survivability and depth as well as offensive options in beginning of game?

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK - YOU GUYS ARE BETTER THAN CHUCK NORRIS!
