Default The Coronation of Maegor Baratheon & aftermath

    After many words...

"Then by the grace of the Seven I, the High Septon, arbiter of the will of the Seven above on their good earth, do hereby crown you, Maegor Baratheon, Sec - " The aged holy man in brilliant white and rainbow paused for only a split second before proceeding as though nothing had happened, "First of his Name, King of the First Men and the Andals and the Rhoynar, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm." The High Septon finished speaking gravely. That said, he placed the gleaming crown on Maeglor's head, and motioned for him to rise. "May your reign be long and prosperous, may you rule wisely and justly, may you keep the faith of your forefathers strong and ablaze in the hearts of your subjects, and may you and your heirs usher in a new age of peace and prosperity to grace the Kingdom."

Looking back to the crowd, and making a grand, sweeping gesture with his right arm (conveniently carrying the royal scepter as well, so that the new king could take possession of it) toward Maeglor, and his strong voice carries itself through the hall as the previously-solemn audience of nobles and high clergy begin to stir with activity. "All hail Maeglor Baratheon, First of his Name, King of the First Men and the Andals and the Rhoynar, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, as ordained by the wisdom of the Seven and raised high by the will of the people! Hail!"

    -------

After the coronation, the festive royal feast is well underway, and unless the newly crowned King Maeglor makes a last-minute cancellation, a tourney incorporating a joust, a melee and an archery contest is sure to follow...

Maeglor Baratheon stood up and grasped the Scepter within his strong grip. He slowly turned to face the assembled nobles in his proud moment of glory, making himself appear strong and wise as the Kings of old did.

The newly crowned King was no son of the predecessor Robert Baratheon, but in fact, his younger brother. Maeglor was born of the same womb and fed on the same breast as Robert when he was born. The King had proven himself worthy of his title, "The Storm Caller," during the War of Usurper. He was very different from Robert though. Maeglor had shorter dark hair and a sharp goatee. His facial was youthful and strong. His eyes dark, yet sharp and attentive to his surroundings.

Maeglor stepped forth, scepter in hand, and stood before the crowd of nobles and those who supported his elder brother Robert...and those who were forced to submit to his rule.

My fellow nobles of Westeros, my countrymen and women. Today marks a grand, but sad day. For it marks the fifteenth year of my deceased brother, Robert, a proud and just King, whose end was premature and mournful. Though much of his work is unfinished, I promise to continue my brother's works and expand upon them. I promise to preserve the peace Robert established and worked so hard to keep...and once more, make it more even prosperous. The scars left by the war shall be healed over time and together, my fellow nobles, we will make Westeros stronger than ever before...a reality that Robert always wished and worked for! Today we hail not only the successor, but we give thanks and our goodbyes to the man who created this enlightened peace for our realm. All hail Robert I Baratheon, to his glorious reign and continued legacy!

Maeglor heard the welcomed applause and praise from the various nobles. Many knew of his dedication and loyalty to his elder brother. And how much Maeglor respected Robert for his achievements. Now, it was his turn to continue the workings of his brother and to create his own legacy as well.

The young King of thirty-three stepped down from his platform and walked down the aisle to the grand feast and tourney that awaited him and all the guests outside. The days of mourning had ended, today would be full of celebration and the beginning of a new reign.

OOC: anyone may speak to Maeglor at this time now and what not.

All the Redwynes was present they had brought ten barrels of Arbor gold and five ships with food, tables and so on for the festivities along with armour and other equipment to fight in the tournament to honour their new King. Logan, and his two sons was the front figures of the family chatting eagerly with nobles speaking about their hopes for the future. Willette Redwyne was there as-well, more subtle, elegant and speaking with courtiers in the shadows.

lord Harald Lannister approaches the King.
An Inspiring speech your grace. But will it be enought to keep the lords appeased?

Maeglor greets Harald and stands there as he speaks.

I do not think it will be enough to appease the lords, Lord Lannister. It will more or less keep their minds at ease...knowing that I will not radically change the dream of my brother, Robert...only expand upon it with my own ideas and that of the other lords. I shall have to think up others methods to ensure their cooperation in due time.

Maeglor was aware of this situation. Robert had always spoken to him about the different lords and left behind some key advice that would help smooth out the situations in Westeros and among the Lords that still existed.

The Reynes and Tarbecks too were present at the ceremony, having brought chests of Castamere gold and Tarbeck finery as their gifts to the new master of the Seven Kingdoms. While Lord Raymun Reyne, never one to hold back an appetite and in fact considering such behavior disrespectful toward his host, was busy gorging himself over his wife's complaints, his sons and daughter were behaving in a much more restrained manner. Lord Robb and Lady Senelle of Tarbeck Hall were in conversation, Septon Ronnet had his face buried in a book rather than the food, and Ser Ryman had excused himself to relieve his bladder.

On the way out however, the younger Reyne caught sight of Lady Redwyne, and decided he could master his bodily functions long enough to hold a civil conversation with her. "Lady Redwyne, is it not? Pleased to make your acquaintance. I am Ser Ryman Reyne, third son of Lord Raymun Reyne."

She turned, having just ended another conversation and smiled her charming white smile. She looked down, saw and removed some pleats in her dress of myrish silk.
    "
    It is."
She spoke with a modulated tone and voice, she didn't step backwards or forth after turning to him, and she kept her hands together in front of herself within her own space, between her fingers she held a elegant glass with a small and moderated amount of white wine. Her gaze remained on him for a short second, and she spoke again.
"Likewise, Ser Ryman Reyne, a pleasure."
She was very.. present.. Intense in her being.

Ryman nodded and smiled back, trying to drown himself in Lady Redwyne's charm so he wouldn't be able to think of how much he needed to relieve himself very soon. He pushed some of his dark curls out of his face and successfully managed to control his breathing, at least for the time being. "How fares the Arbor then, my fair lady?"

    Maeglor nods in agreement.

Thank you for the compliment, Lord Lannister. Robert taught me many things about the courtly matters, of Westeros and of the other Lords. Advice that I shall take to heart to ensure order, prosperity and peace in this realm.

He stops walking for now to look at Harald.

Tell me, how fairs your family and Casterly Rock, Lord Lannister? I have not heard much since the end of the rebellion, besides the kind words my brother spoke of you and your House.

The rock is the Rock your grace. It's cold, but rich. My family fare well, they are strong and healthy, thank the seven.
    Speaking of riches...

Harald presents the king with a golden ring, a golden circlet and a fine wolf skin cloak that he had tucked under his arm.
A gift... To mark your coronation. How fares your house your grace? I have not heard of house Baratheons other members for a while.

Maeglor smiles and takes the wolf skin cloak, examining it.

A fine pelt...I believe the gray mountain wolf if I am correct. Fearsome beasts, but have the best pelts for cloaks. I do need a new one as my favorite is still marred by the blood of the rebellion. Stained and ruined sadly. I shall wear this many times, thank you, Lord Lannister

Maeglor gives it to a servant who takes it and steps to the side for now. The King then takes the circlet and examines it carefully. He taps it lightly with his finger. Then the King slips the golden ring upon his finger, a good fit. He offers another smile to Harald.

Ah, fine Lannister craftsmanship. My brother spoke well of it. You have my heartfelt thanks for your gifts, Lord Lannister. Oh and once the feast and tourney are over, I must speak with you in the palace before court, Harald.

Maeglor gives the circlet to the servant who walks off now, keeping the ring upon his finger as the King speaks.

All is well in House Baratheon. Besides the death of our beloved Robert, we shall continue. My cousin, Bennard, is bannerman of the Bronzegate. A worthy position for his abilities and merit.

of course, your grace. I thank you for your compliments. Harald was annoyed as he saw his brother stuffing his face with food. He let it pass, however, but not before making some Frustrated eye contact with him.

She smiled once more. And answered his question with her melodic voice.
    "
The Green Pavalion Island is green, bountiful and beautiful as ever, Ser Reyne. And busy in the cities. How about Castamere? I've never been there, and yet all my jewellery comes from the mines that enrich the region."
She removed some of her black curls behind her ear with a slow controlled movement as to show a small, simple golden earring.

"Ah, busy as always. Father is opening new gold mines or finding new veins in old onesevery other day, and brother has found some silver down near Tarbeck Hall. If Father would permit it, I'd gladly send some of our jewelers' latest and best products to the Arbor as a gift to you, my lady..."

Ryman laughed, an inadvertently high-pitched laugh as he struggled to control himself. Beads of sweat were forming on his forehead now, such was the effort required to keep his bodily functions under control. The thought raced in his head, Now how do I get out of here so I can get to the latrine...

She blinked a few times, and then she settled, looking him in the eyes.
    "
Why, thank you very much, good Ser. That is most gracious of you. Say, would you like some Arbor Gold?"
She swirled the wine in her small glass, and smiled to try and make it less awkward for the man, maybe that was what coursed his.. Anxiety?.. Oh, or maybe. She thought of a way that would not indignate him.
"Well, if it is fine with you I'll go and fetch you a glass, we only have a single barrel up from the ships now, saving the other nine till later. As it is Arbor Gold.. The Barrel is guarded, as such it is properly better to break custom and let me get it."
She smiled again this was properly the best way to spare him, and let him think she was ignorant of his problem.

Ugh, no, if I drink one more drop of wine I think I'm going to burst. And Father would never forgive me, nor would Robb and the others ever let me live it down, if I take a long sizzling piss in front of the newly-crowned King. "Er, that will be quite alright Lady Redwyne, I've had plenty of wine to drink and you know what my dear brother Robb always says, 'moderation in everything' and oh what a shame, I think my dear sister's calling me and she's not one to let me slide easily if I don't answer her summons in time, so farewell and the Seven keep watch over your house!" The words tumbled out of Ryman's mouth rapidly, and with a graceless bow he excused himself and hurried with all his might in the direction exactly opposite from his family's table, toward the latrines, only to be held up by the guards for another entire minute.

The rest of the Reynes have completely failed to notice Ser Ryman's predicament and continue to sit at their table, Lord Raymun and his daughter Lady Rylene both still under the impression that he was engaging Lady Redwyne in spirited conversation, and the others happily oblivious to his disgraceful exit.

Lady Redwyne smiled, her deduction had proven correct, poor man... She sipped to her 'white wine' and smiled to herself once more. Then she walked gracefully and slowly to observe the nobles, noticeably a lot of faces rarely seen was present. And it was about to take the opportunity to meet some of them. Shed not speak of Ser Reyns unlucky exit to anyone. Well that depended on the integrity of his promise of-course..

She drank the water in her glass and placed it on a random table.

She loved the court. Nobles. Kings and feasts. She thrived in environment like this.

Alone, with no retinue, Lord Buliwyf Drumm of Old Wyk enters the throne room. He approaches King Maeglor and kneels at the foot of the dai. His red Valyrian Steel sword, Red Rain, is noticeable in it's ragged sheath slung behind his back. A symbol of House Drumm and one of only a handful of Valyrian Steel Swords left in the Seven Kingdoms. He bows his head and speaks

On behalf of my house... And my liegelord, I am honored to serve you, Your Grace.

Buliwyf rises and notices the Greyjoy's, nor any other of the Iron lords have attended the coronation. But Buliwyf remembers his families words, "Strength and Honor".. Honor he thinks to himself. Honor to your liegelord AND your King. He notices the eyes of all in the room upon him. The Ironborn are ostracised for their brute lifestyles and fierce independence. The Greyjoy rebellion having only been less than a decade before this moment. The Drumm's are well recognized amongst the Highlords of the Seven Kingdoms. Their naval forces were essential to the Iron Fleet.

Buliwyf reflects for a moment, remembering the deaths of his brothers, Skaldir... Vermundr... And Leif, who all died fighting these same Lords who stand amongst him. He was 5th in line of succession of his seat, but the untimely deaths of his elder siblings led to his Lordship.

He bows once more before stepping aside and joining the other Lords during the precession.

Lord Buliwyf Drumm, it is good to see one of the Iron Islands here. I hope the islands are prospering and your house is well. Please, enjoy your time here.

Maeglor watches Lord Drumm walk away now. The King then goes to greet the other lords who would be arriving over time.
