This error keeps popping up every time I try to launch a mod. This only happens with mods not vanilla. The disk is definitely in the drive and the drive definitely works. Any thoughts?

"Run as Administrator"?
"XP Compatible"?
What about the four campaigns that came with Knigdoms?
haven't tried those. I have never had this problem before....
I ran it as admin and it said it couldn't find the kindoms.exe. It was right in the Medieval 2 directory where it was supposed to be....

Gold Edition dvd?
Edit: Have you tried rebooting your computer?

no I have not tried rebooting. Do you think that would help? Yes it is the right disk.

Almost ready to blame it onto SecuRom kicking in late as usual.
Did you have any trouble installing the second disc when you installed the game?
Have you done this from the C: drive icon with the UAC disabled?
to question 1. no.
to question 2. What do you mean do it from the C drive?

2. So you can take as much ownership as Steve Ballmer's kids will let you of your computer. This opens up all sorts of the for other programs not even game related as well as the game.
I did what he said for the SEGA folder. Nothing changed

I am staring to believe either Windows security bs or Securom or maybe both are playing with oyu.
The setup.exe's on those discs are the same archaic ones they released with the individual packages and are only good for XP on a good day.The autorun feature on many newre dvd-roms has proven to be a vad joke on the buyer/player.
Anything you know about Vista and Win 7 goes out the window with this game as it has a mindof its own.
Lesson learned the hard way with Vista 1.0, disable the UAC and take ownership of C: drive as soon as Wondows installs, no later, install the motherboard drivers, activate the Windows copy, install the grahpics drivers, update Windows until no more updates, and install in someplace like C:\Games to get away from Windows security BS and the virtual store/roaming BS. Life gets a little simpler with a little preparation.
Have you tried updating the dvd-rom's firmware? Sometimes this works.
Something else to add - this DRM doesn't like software like virtual drives, image copiers and stuff like Nero. Do you have anything like that on that system?

What is DRM?
Right now I am in the process of reinstalling

Digital Rights Management. Essentially it's software that polices the game itself (and the system it is installed on) to prevent piracy. From watching this forum from afar for awhile I think you've got something on your system that SecuRom doesn't like. As I see you haven't posted a detailed DxDiag log could you please provide one? It could help us to see what is needed. Here's how:
DxDiag is easy to run if you have any knowledge of Windows. From the Start button choose 'Run...' and type in 'dxdiag'. This is the DirectX diagnostic program. Let it run and then chose the option at the bottom to "Save All Information...", save it to the Desktop, and then copy and paste the output here on the forum. Please wrap the output in Spoiler tags to reduce page crawl. Good luck!

Outside Program Fies (x86), I hope.
is it an expansion pack disk? or a medieval II gold disk?
you have to play with disc 1 (has the mtw2 vinalla, non mods install disk) even for the mods.
Should say disk 1 on it.

I'd rather be lucky than skilled!
I know. I had disk 1 in. But good news! Reinstalling worked! Thanks for your time everyone!
EDIT: What is wrong with Program Files (x86)?
