Icon4 Mod problem - I get a fatal error when starting with io.file_first

I followed the guide where you backup data folder (thank god), then unpacked the one that does everything.

Then, without even changing anything data-wise, simply attempt to run the game with the files_first following the launching instructions for steam owners.

To do this you basically right-click game, goto properties, set launch options, and input io.file_first

Aaaand it throws the fatal exception error. Since I haven't actually modded anything, I don't see how I could have bad data.

I think I'm missing something. Am I supposed to do something with the data after I run the unpacker utility?

Also, is there a way to see what the error is? I could probably figure out what to do if I knew what is going wrong.

    Any help is much appreciated!

IIRC you have to delete some files (geog or some map file) after unpacking. Can't remember exactly since it's been years since I last mod anything.

Or maybe it does not work with Steam version ? Just re-read that you have a Steam version.

    From unpacker READ ME file

    - NOTE: Due to a timestamp check, the following unpacked files will
cause the game to crash and must be deleted before the game is
    launched:

    data\descr_geography_new.txt
    data\descr_geography_new.db
