    Default expectations from alliances

If I am in an alliance...am I expected to help them when they are attacked or declare war? If I want them to help me is that an option in the diplomacy screen? If my next in line marries another factions princess do they have a right to succession if my heir dies?

You're not expected to help them, but doing so will make them like you more. There is no right to succession; marying is just a way to get alliances, and possibly some nice traits if you have a good character. But yes, don't trust them too much either; don't leave bordering communities without some garrison.

I'm on turn 200 playing as Scotland.

I never set foot in Europe and instead went down to Marrakesh and have fought all the way around the board.

Denmark has devoured all other factions in Europe, and has more territory and bigger military than me.

We are allied for the time being. Currently the last reasonable faction in my path is Turkey. Problem is they are also allied to Denmark, maybe even a vassal of Denmark. If I attack Turkey, that may be the end of my D alliance, which would mean I actually have to defend the British Isles, and the extremely lucrative trade I have with D would be finish.

I also tribute Denmark some florins every few turns to maintain Perfect relationship status.

No. If your allies border you you should expect to be back stabbed. There is an option in the diplomacy screen. That is "Declare War on Faction".

I will say one thing don't trust Milan even if you are a catholic faction, I think you have less chances to be backstabbed being a Pagan faction lol

    Milanese are S.O.B.s...

At least last game they got excommunicated for attacking me, and later had crusade called against them....without me asking. Served them right, getting gangbanged for their crimes.

    Agreed

That's what's awesome about Stainless Steel, Milan is replaced with Genoa.
