Looks interesting. Hopefully it's better executed and cheaper to make than Terra Nova, getting tired of network sci-fi dying after one season.

Is that Gus from Breaking bad?

If so I might actually have to watch something on network TV.

So why the hell are they using muskets, machetes, bows and crossbows? Since modern guns not working doesn't make any sense at all.

gunpowder should theoretically work in muskets.

Almost looks like the change series in books by SM Stirling. Looks good.

The mechanics should work in modern guns as as well and it doesn't make any sense for modern weapons to stop working.

Well I suppose after 15 years of the world being in darkness, there would of been alot of fighting between rival factions etc, so modern weapons and bullets would of been used up and in short supply, and with no power, theres no way to produce more ammo etc, so people are finding ways to use weapons where they can readily make ammunition, thats my theory anyway. Looks really good, I've just recently watched Jericho and wanting something similar. Any ideas when it'll come to the UK?

True... but I think the deciding factor is all the modern equipment it takes to manufacture and produce modern guns and ammunition. There should be plenty of ammo for years after the event for people to kill each other with before they stop working but once people run out of ammunition it might become more difficult to scavenge for more rounds? Idk I am just bull here.

All I know for sure is it would be almost impossible to manufacture more weapons and ammunition for modern weapons without machines or slaves since people will also have to focus on scavenging for food or growing their own food... which I can only imagine will be difficult.

Raradir basically had the same theory I just had.

The show will definitely be better than Terra Nova. Though that kid looks too clean and whatnot...

Its network tv which means it wont last one season when it doesnt pull monster ratings. I never trust the "big" three with anything other then sitcoms or reality shows...though I will say clearly the Cubs winning the world series would indeed be the spark for the end of the world. I like how in a post apoc world everyone has nice, pressed cleaned clothing, wearing making up, teeth bright as can be.

That's the entire first episode at least, right there. Probably half the season.

It seems like sci-fi without any of those awesome expensive stuff from the future.

The series looks horrible. They still have ultra clean well ironed clothes even though it is supposed to be an apocalyptic scenario. They also seem to be all well fed and happy so where is the apocalypse? And yeah the muskets are just ridiculous. The most modern assault rifle still has the most rudimentary mechanism. It is not like they are lasers controlled by microchips. Also:

Cancelled at the end of the first season.

FOX, NBC, and ABC cannot be trusted with quality TV programming anymore. The success of the Lost franchise was an aberration.

Why is it the only sci-fi shows that get greenlighted and hyped is yet all the good shows get canceled without a word?

I think Fringe is the only show that I like that keeps surprising me with new seasons.

So why the hell are they using muskets, machetes, bows and crossbows? Since modern guns not working doesn't make any sense at all.
Same reason why the recent underworld movie had 1980s cars and CRT monitors even though its supposed to be the future or at least 6 years after the previous movie which was the present. Stupidity.

They could at least ATTEMPT realism. You don't need factories with advanced computers, technology, or power, to make an AR-15. Plus there are probably 1000s of those guns with a million rounds of ammo likely just laying around. Fallout, a comedy-apocalypse game, is more realistic.

A EMP or whatever would turn cities to rubble? Really?

Jericho had all the adults die and kids literally rule the world and was near lord of the flies for a number of years and it was less ridiculous.

FOX, NBC, and ABC cannot be trusted with quality TV programming anymore.
This doesn't look "quality". So it probably wont last longer than a couple episodes.

Whats to stop these people from using cars with a carburetor as well? Should I handwave all logic? Advanced technology is not required to pump oil, create gasoline, have cars and construction equipment....

I can build a 1911 and AR-15 from scrap parts and reload ammo from gunpowder and casings. Would I be king of this world?

I bought an ar-15 upper and lower from people who forge it in their own in house mom and pop gunsmith. These people cease to exist? Dumb shows need to fail, just like Terra Nova.

So is this person willing to spend his food and water on a horse to walk on the gravel roads than having a mountainbike that any smith could forge? On the rubble highways i'm sure you could ride comfortably for miles why spend all that important resources on an animal?

Being a JJ Abrams show its just going to drag on and on filled with stupid twists and fake cliffhangers that don't matter.

No idea... wish they didnt cancel Stargate Universe, that was realistic and interesting.

Considering I read the book series by SM Stirling and that is a little bit like this show I have an idea for why people cant find these weapons and ammunition.

Right after the event, whatever it was, there will be millions upon millions of people in the cities who will suddenly have no running water, no electricity, and a short supply of food. So what does that mean? Well for starters food in the city will run out within a month (including can food). It will take less than a week for all the food in the stores to be emptied by desperate folks. So in less than a month there will be no food in the cities but millions of hungry people. They have to go somewhere. It will be pure chaos in the beginning, millions will have to die will few groups will escape the cities and find somewhere to wait it out... basically wait out the hordes of hungry people to die so that you can scavenge and recon.

So the priority for the first couple months to a year is basically food and shelter. Weapons will be necessary to protect yourself from hungry people who want to kill you but it wont really be much of a priority to go off on long treks for weapons when they are really not all over the place.

If they do work then you can find a horse and ride for days looking for gun shops or search every home until you find a weapon... both would take a lot of time and energy and food (which as I said is in short supply) and scavenging for food in the midst of an apocalypse is really not that easy.

If you get lucky and find some guns, great but within the first 5 months you wont be able to find that many, after that they should become easier to find but I bet military bases will be the first to be looted.

Still the writers might just explain it by disabling weapons too. Somehow. Though I hope not.

Buildings absent of maintence can fall apart. There may also be earthquakes or slight tremors.

Whats to stop these people from using cars with a carburetor as well? Should I handwave all logic? Advanced technology is not required to pump oil, create gasoline, have cars and construction equipment....
No but it helps. Like I said the first priority is to grow food since can food will quickly run out. After that if there is anyone with the knowledge to do those things as well as repair and maintain weapons then they can do that.

I can build a 1911 and AR-15 from scrap parts and reload ammo from gunpowder and casings. Would I be king of this world?
Good, lets hope if this happens you dont get killed by some hungry mobs or eaten by a cannibal. You wouldnt be king if someone else had some guns and ammo already and forced you to work for him.

I bought an ar-15 upper and lower from people who forge it in their own in house mom and pop gunsmith. These people cease to exist? Dumb shows need to fail, just like Terra Nova.
Its a plot point... they want technology to fail so they can have people live without technology. Its fantasy.

So is this person willing to spend his food and water on a horse to walk on the gravel roads than having a mountainbike that any smith could forge? On the rubble highways i'm sure you could ride comfortably for miles why spend all that important resources on an animal?
Like I said maybe there is an explanation for why the engines fail? SM Stirling explained it by just saying the laws of whatever were changed. Gasoline no longers burns fast enough or whatever... which I always thought was a poor explanation but the point was to get rid of technology not to make up a realistic explanation for why technology stop to work.

Being a JJ Abrams show its just going to drag on and on filled with stupid twists and fake cliffhangers that don't matter.
    Thats prob likely.

First episode will end right after the father is killed and the daughter goes off on her trek. As she is walking into the sunset the show cuts to cliffhanger.

This reminds me of SM Sterling's "Dies the Fire" in which all technology more advanced than gunpowder just stops working.
But this show doesn't look like much thought was put into it.

I dont think it is a matter of finding. A simple machine gun can be created fairly easily even in a "backyard forge". The same applies to ammo.
