lol that PM was like 2 A4 pages full of different scenarios + Noob is away this week. Im going on vacation this monday and then I will start increasing the paste of this mod and have time for HS diplomacy (fingers crossed). Vacation = no more work rather then charter so I will have some time!

Today I sneakstarted on the descr_names which have given me headaches just to imagine doing. Since there are few named families in Essos this will take a lot of imagination to finnish and I might need some help with research.

Right now iim thinking I could pull of some sort of Generic "free cities names" with some local variations with surnames. However I have no clue what people from Ibben are named.

+Rep to whoever makes a contribution to the name-pool!!

Hüllkjiifafyr could be a pretty generic Ibbenese name

The Yellow Whale - Yezzan zo Qaggaz
    The Girl General
The Little Pigeon - Paezhar zo Myraq
The Clanker Lords: (Chezdhar zo Rhaezn, Maezon zo Rhaezn and Grazdhan zo Rhaezn)
Lord Wobblecheeks - Ghazdor zo Ahlaq
The Drunken Conqueror - Morghaz zo Zherzyn
Pudding Face - Gorzhak zo Eraz
The Rabbit - Faezhar zo Faez

Some Ghiscari names from the Wiki. I am at a loss for Ibben though. We have learned so little.

Many thanks to the good folks down at the Graphics Workshop for the sig.

    Grazie friend!

Ghiscari is pretty easy giving the descriptions in Danys POV's! Dothraki are easy aswell since you basicly could name everybody only by a lastname and then give epithets like "Khal" to Factionleaders and Heirs. Eventually let every general start with a "Ko" as firstname as in bloodrider.

The best thing about Ghiscari is that they got a clear pattern in names, the valyrian free cities are not that easy

What religions do you think should be in game?
    Islam = Followers of Rhollor
    Christians = Many faced god
    Pagan = The great stallion
    Orthodox = The Harpy/Ghiscari culture
    Heretic?

Considering how diverse they all are it is no wonder. I tried to look up names and did find a few similarities. All the free cities lean towards vowels as opposed to the eastern cities consonants. Ae is very prevelant too. Names like Staegone, Maelys, Vaelaros, and Taena. Oddly Braavos does not share this very much but is sounds like you have that all done. Two other similarities are that many names end in rys and have double consonsants.

Volantis is easy. Not only are many names known but also they share a lot. Most end in o or os. Also like I said they have the traits I talked about earlier. When you come ip with names I would say begin with the basic stuff for all of the cities. Then for the coties (Myr and Lys) closer to Volantis give more eastern Volanti sounding names. The northern ones like Pentos, Braavos, and Lorath should share more itallian names.

I don't think the many faced god is really worshiped much. It is just important because of the faceless men. Seeing as there is no alternative I suppose it is the best option I guess. But can't culture replace religion? Culture would fit mich better with having groups like Free cities, Dothraki, Ghiscari, and Qartheen.

    Ibbenese name department:

    Tröllahlodvanvinnir
    Paküllfulstrór
    Leiðvitogi
    Storveiðimahvalür
    Málalsonuriði
    Bréévo-blaémdingor
(Bréévo stands for something like braavos, blendingur is Icelandic for bastard;)

Basically remixed Icelandic. I'll try to add a Indian(?) flavour later (maybe).

I allways imagined Ibbanese more like wildlings/clansmen but since there are no names stated in the books there is a lot of confusion.

So far most free cities have distinct latin-sounding names. Tyroshis sound very greek from my experience. Norvosi and Lorathi seems to have avoiding names that can be easy to develop patterns around.

Where does the religion of the 7 fit in? Didn't it come from Essos too?

Yep it came with the andals. There is a small shrine of the seven in the isle of gods in Braavos.

Maybe it would be better to use cultures rather then religions as The Forgotten stated. The question is if the worship of R'hollor could be taken into account there. Minor cultures like Lazaren, Ibbenes, Qarthen could easily be combined as heretic while Giscari, Dothraki and Valyrian would use their own "religion" as culture.

For example we all know that the sons of the harpy does not like it when foreigner interfear with their traditions. Basicly Slaver's Bay would be all ghiscari with some Valyrian exceptions the closer you get to Volantis/Valyria.

Lys and Volantis are known to have huge tempels dedicated to Rhollor which is reason enough to use religions after all.

I would like to express interest in helping out on this mod. I took the liberty today of compiling a list of as many Essosi names as I could, and also put together my thoughts on the possible factions and leaders thereof.

For the most part I populated this list with names from the list of characters on the Wiki of Ice and Fire, just by clicking on all the names that sounded like they were from Essos and checking them out. Others I found in the specific articles about the various Free Cities.

I think the best setting for the mod would be just after Daenarys captures Yunkai, but before she takes Meereen.

I think the factions should be (with the faction they’d replace, their cities, and possible leaders):

    1. Braavos- (Venice) Controls Braavos (nothing else makes sense), led by Sealord Ferrego Antaryon
    2. Myr-(Portugal) Controls Myr and something in Disputed Lands, led by the Magister of Myr
    3. Tyrosh- (Denmark) Controls Tyrosh, Bloodstone, Grey Gallows, and Stepstones, ruled by The Archon of Tyrosh
    4. Lys- (Sicily) Controls Lys and maybe the Orange Shore, ruled by Tregor Ormollen
    5. Norvos/Qohor/Lorath- (HRE) Controls Norvos, Qohor, Lorath and Forest of Qohor, ruled by the High Magister of Norvos
    6. Pentos- (Milan: Pentos, Flatlands, and maybe Andalos, ruled I guess by Magister Illyrio Mopatis)
    7. Ghis- (Egypt: Controls Meereen, New Ghis, Yaros, and Ghaen, ruled by Hizdahr zo Loraq)
    8. Volantis (Byzantine: Volantis, Mantarys, Elyria, Volon Therys, Valysar, and Sellhorys, ruled by Malaquo Maegyr
    9. Targaryen (Norman) Controls Astapor and Yunkai, ruled by Daenarys Targaryen
    10. Dothraki (Timurids) Controls Vaes Dothrak, led by Khal Pono)
    11. Qarth (Turks) Controls Qarth, led by Xaro Xhoan Doxos

Naath, Lhazaar, Ibben, and the Summer Isles would all be Rebels I suppose...

These are must my initial thoughts, and the names for each city are in the attached file. I am also making a more extensive list which adds names of Braavosi to the list of Myrish or Tyroshi wherever they make sense, and so on.

Well, it won't let me attach word files, so I guess I'll just give you what I have in a pm and post it here in my next message

Braavos (ruled by the sickly Sealord Ferrego Antaryon, who is guarded by First Sword Qarro Volentin; Tormo Fregar, who is speculated in aDwD to be the next Sealord, might make a good heir or general )- Male: Allaquo, Beqqo, Brusco, Cossomo, Denyo, Ezzelyno , Ferrego, Gyleno, Gyloro, Izembaro, Lotho, Luco, Mero, Morredo, Moroggo, Narbo, Noho, Orbelo, Oro, Pynto, Qarro, Quence, Ricasso, Roggo, Syrio, Tagganaro, Terro, Ternesio, Tormo, Tycho, Yorko; Female: Alia, Bellegere, Bellonara, Betharios, Brea, Meralyn, S’vrone, Talea, Umma, Yna; Surnames: Antaryon, Dimittis, Fregar, Forel, Lornel, Nestoris, Otherys, Prestayn, Tendyris, Terys, Volentin, Dothare

Myr (ruled by magisters—we would have to speculate on leaders Magister X)- Male: Morosh, Thoros, Qos; Female: Serala, Taena

Pentos (ruled by a Prince with a council of merchant magisters—wealth equals power in Pentos; Illyrio Mopatis would be an obvious choice for some sort of leader, the only other notable Pentoshi is the sellsword “Tattered Prince,” who tells Barristan Selmy that he wants to rule Pentos)- Male: Groleo, Illyrio, Ordello, Pytho; Surnames: Malanon, Mopatis

Norvos (ruled by a High Magister and a council of religious leaders—the only notable Norvoshi in Norvos is Mellario Martell, Doran’s estranged wife, but the degree to which she holds political power is questionable, and she certainly wouldn’t be a marriageable princess)- Male: Areo, Byan, Ricasso; Female: Mellario, Belandra; Surnames: Hotah, Votyris

Lorath-(nothing of significance is really said of Lorath in the books, probably would work best as a rebel settlement) Male: Jaqen; Female: Shae; Surnames: H’ghar
Qohor (government unknown, but the city is guarded by Unsullied)- Male: Tobho, Vargo; Surnames: Hoat, Mott

Tyrosh (ruled by an Archon who’s name remains unknown, but he does have a green-bearded brother who attended the wedding of Daenarys to Drogo)- Male: Alequo, Collio, Daario, Morreo, Ollo, Roro; Surnames: Adarys, Naharis, Quaynis, Turnitis, Uhoris

Lys (seems to have merchants princes, one of which is Tregor Ormollen, who has Lynesse Hightower Mormont for his concubine)- Male: Khorane, Lysono, Meizo, Salladhor, Tregor, Varys; Female: Doreah, Serra, Serenei; Surnames: Maar, Mahr, Ormollen, Sathmantes, Saan

    Volantis
(ruled by three Triarchs—Malaquo Maegyr, Nyessos Vhassar, and Doniphos Paenymion)- Male: Alios, Belicho, Benerro, Doniphos, Gorys, Horrono, Malaquo, Methyso, Moqorro, Nyessos, Parquello, Qavo, Vogarro; Female: Sybelle, Talisa, Trianna; Surnames: Edoryen, Maegyr, Nogarys, Staegone, Qhaedar, Vaelaros, Vhassar

    Ghiscari
(New Ghis, Mereen, Astapor, Yunkai)- Male: Belwas, Cleon, Chezdahr, Daznak, Faezhar, Gorghan, Ghael, Ghazdhor, Gorzhak, Grazdahn, Kraznys, Krazz, Maezon, Morghaz, Morgo, Oznak, Prendahl, Reznak, Qezza, Hizdahr, Skahaz, Yurkhaz, Yezzan; Female: Galazza, Zahrina; Surnames: mo Eraz, mo Kandaq, mo Nakloz, mo Reznak, mo Ullhor, na Ghezn, zo Ahlaq, zo Faez, zo Galare, zo Loraq, zo Myrak, zo Pahl, zo Qaggaz, zo Raezyn, zo Yunzak

    Yunkai
(ruled by an slave-owning aristocracy of “Wise Masters”)- When Yunkai sends forth its army in aDwD against Mereen, Yurkhaz zo Yunzak has the supreme command, but other generals include (and keep in mind that these nicknames are given by the sellswords in the Windblown) “the Yellow Whale” Yezzan zo Qaggaz, “The Girl General,” “The Little Pigeon” Paezhar zo Myraq, “The Clanker Lords” (Chezdhar zo Rhaezn, Maezon zo Rhaezn and Grazdhan zo Rhaezn), “Lord Wobblecheeks “ Ghazdor zo Ahlaq, “The Drunken Conqueror “ Morghaz zo Zherzyn, “Pudding Face” Gorzhak zo Eraz, “The Rabbit” Faezhar zo Faez, “The Charioteer,” “The Beastmaster,” and “The Perfumed Hero.”

    New Ghis
(presumably has an aristocracy like the other three slave cities)

    Mereen
(formerly ruled by Grand Masters—Oznak zo Pahl was a great champion of the city but Belwas killed him, Hizdahr zo Loraq or Daenarys Targaryen would work as faction leaders now I suppose) . The main slaving families are the houses of Dhazak, Galare, Ghazeen, Hazkar, Kandaq, Loraq, Merreq, Naqqan, Pahl, Quazzar, Reznak, Rhazdar, Uhlez, Yherizan and Zhak (see above in the Ghiscari names for the known prefixes for these surnames).

Old Valyria (Mantarys/Elyria...Likely Targaryen style names)- Male: Aegon, Aegor, Aemon, Aemond, Aerys, Aenys, Aerion, Ayrmidon, Baelor, Daemon, Daeron, Haegon, Jaeharys, Maegor, Maekar, Maelys, Mantarys, Monterys, Orys, Rhaegar, Rhaegel, Valarr; Female: Aelinor, Alysanne, Daella, Daena, Daenarys, Daeryssa, Elaena, Naerys, Rhae, Rhaella, Rhaelle, Rhaena, Rhaenys, Visenya; Surnames: Targaryen, Velaryon, Barratheon (probably should make some up…)

    Qarth
(ruled by several competing groups, the Tourmaline Brotherhood, the Thirteen, the Pureborn, not sure who would make a good faction leader)- Male: Egon, Mathos, Pyat, Sallor, Sybassion, Urrathon, Wendello, Xaro; Surnames: Emeros, Mallarawan, Pree, Qar Deeth, Xhoan Daxos

    Asshai
    - Female: Quaithe

    Dothraki
    - Aggo, Bharbo, Cohollo, Drogo, Fogo, Iggo, Jhaqo, Jhogo, Mago, Moro, Ogo, Pono,
Qotho, Quaro, Rakharo, Rhogoro, Temmo, Zekko, Zollo; Female: Irri, Jhiqui

    Lhazar-
    Female: Eroeh, Mirri; Surnames: Duur

    Ibben
    - Male: Togg; Female: Assadora; Surnames: Joth

    Naath
    - Female: Missandei

    Summer Isles
    - Male: Balaq, Jalabhar, Quhuru, Xhondo; Female: Chataya, Alayaya, Kojja; Surnames: Mo, Xho

Edit: the names in italics are of questionable origin but I guessed, there were going to be more but these were all I had time for

Good job Pendrak. I can't say how well that will help but anyone who goes to that much work deserves a cookie. Several cookies in fact but since I have none you shall recieve rep instead.

    descr_names.txt

First off, I should explain that I don't know little about modding.

But I made a copy of the desc_names from my youngbloods mod and I did a little messing around.

I don't know which direction you will go on the factions, but I think you can copy and paste my character lists wherever you decide it should go. In the above file I assigned them as such (slightly different from what I said in the other post, so this way the stuff I did is easier to find in the file):

    1. Braavos=Venice
    2. Lys=Sicily
    3. Pentos=Milan
    4. Targaryen=England
    5. Tyrosh=Denmark
    6. Ghiscari=Egypt
    7. Lorath/Qohor/Norvos=HRE
    8. Volantis=Byzantium
    9. Dothraki=Timurids
    10. Qarth=Turks
    11. Myr=Portugal
    12. Summer Islanders/Random Westerosi/Naath, et. al= Slave

I hope this helps the project in some way, and if it doesn't, let me know what I can do instead.

    6. Ghiscari=Egypt (Ghiscari will be two factions, slaver's bay and new ghis, moors, turks)
    7. Lorath/Qohor/Norvos=HRE (portugal/spain/HRE)
    8. Volantis=Byzantium

It might be good to split the Dothraki faction into two or three different khalasars. After all, iirc Drogo's tribe was split pretty much and the khals would fight eachother as soon as they're outside of Vaes Dothrak.
Under the patronage of Finlander. Once patron to someone, no longer.
    Content's well good, innit.
