4gb for $60 is actually a rip off,
    if your system uses DDR3

    8GB aka 2x 4GB can be had for $37

still if you have no idea what your doing then i guess its worth while but $23 labor to simply drop in ram sticks is a bit well sad.

I know things are cheaper to purchase on the internet but ide rather just get it all done and over with at once.

I can live with the extra cost

Just upgraded my PC to 2x8 GB RAM. Turned it on, works fine, System indicates I have 16GB RAM.

Do I need to change any settings on Windows 7, or is RAM basically stick it in and go?

It is stick it in (and if it works) then it's good. No need to worry.

Since this is to do with RAM, I'll post here.

Given the current prices of DDR2 compared to DDR3, would I get any real benefits going from 4gb to 8gb, or would it make more sense to save the money for the DDR3 I'll need when I do my next major upgrade (which will definitely be the whole motherboard because Quad Core is the upper limit of my current board)? To get two more 2gb sticks of the same make and model I have now will set me back almost £50 at amazon!

Might not be a bad idea to run Memtest 86+ overnight just to make sure it's all good.

Thanks, I'll save my pennies in that case. My motherboard doesn't support DDR3 naturally.

@OP - sounds like you've been royally ripped off with this RAM upgrade. How much did they charge to fit it? You do know that installing RAM is the easiest upgrade to do - even I can do it!!!!
