I was wondering what is your favourite leader or commander and why.My favourite is Alexander because of his great achievements despite his short life and young age and because of his innovative tactics .

Hannibal Barca, because he had the same name as me. Everything about his life is unique. The promise to his father, passing the Alps with elephants, incredible tactics, the battle of Cannae. Undeafeated at enemy's lands, defeated at his homeland, siding with the enemies of Rome until his death. What he must have felt, when he saw he will not conquer Rome, even though he was unbeatable, should have been an issue of a whole book.

well in regards to military effectiveness i think that there are simply to many leaders with major qualities that qualify as the best in regards to circumstances they were in. in regards to respecting a leader for how he used those victories or qualities i would have to go with cyrus the great.not only did the man conquer a country, and become adorned there, but in respect to his time, every civilized peoples of that time besides the orient and india which he didnt live long enough to encorporate into his empire spoke only the best of him. How many leaders can match that quality?
in regards to absolute effectiveness i respect equally to one another
1.Nader Shah of the Afshari
2.Khalid ibn al-walid of the Rashudin
3.Alexander the great of Macedon
4.Hannibal Barca of Carthage
5.Mithridates of Pontus
6.collective leaders of the Sassanids and Byzantines
7.Napoleon of France
8.Hitler of Nazi Germany(yeah he was an ass, but he conquered all of mainland europe and northern africa, and spawned the very beginnings of modern warefare. thats gotta count as genius.)
9.Genghis Khan
10. Cyrus the Great of the Achaemenids
11.Attila the Hun
12.David of Israel
13.Togrul Beg the Seljuk
14.Sparticus
15.Bryan of Ireland
16. and every other leader who had the balls to stand up and win.
Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa.
The dude knew his job, no question.
I think Hannibal is incredible but I still prefer Alexander what a lucky boy Aristotle himself was his mentor that's like studying in the world's finest school well everyone has a different point of view and yours is as important as mine and must be respected.
I. I am able to repeat the conquests of Alexander, I can lead the romans into a glorious empire and future, I can bring back the old glory of the successor states ...
I'd prefer your father
My vote goes for Darth Vader - what are the biggest campaigns on earth compared to the universe?
Also he might have been the greatest warrior under those commanders/leaders and only he has fallen
because of his son backstabbing and convincing him of the good side being better than the evil one.

come on guys back to the earth now![]()
I actually meant it rather serious, before my post got hijacked.
See, we all here are the greatest generals. If we could go back in time, we could defeat Alexander, win the civil war against Caesar, or win against Hannibal at Cannae. Why? Because we have knowledge, and Knowledge is power, especially in this case.
Just look at the battle of Gaugamela - If the Persian King had known Alexanders tactic before the battle, he would have won for sure, you can easily see that.
Phyrrus of Epirus, a brilliant tactician. A poor strategist. I love anyone who throws mud in the face of Rome, its just like a big middle finger to history.
Oh, and Antiochus the Third.Amazing soldier, tactician and strategist. Albeit rather arrogant!![]()
Alexander The Great Of Macedon. The man who unified Greece , and followed his father's plans of conquest no matter the consequences. He was born a Man , grew Up Like a Man , Lead Soldiers like a man , fought in battle like a man , and DIED LIKE A MAN.
Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack !

I meant. He didn't die in bed. He drank a poisoned wine , and he sat on a bed for hours , and his soldiers went to his bed and talked to him. He greeted all his soldiers before he died. Any comment ?

yeah if Alexander remained alive he could have defeated the romans and the carthaginians and unified the world under the banner of Macedon
Napoleon, a man who fought the world and almost won.
