Icon3 Sexuality, Genes, and Evolution Debate- Your Thoughts

On this certain forum I visit I came across this heated and unusual discussion that started in a thread about transgenderism. Now I read it all and had a think about this, and I found it actually quite confusing. I was wondering however what the intelligent folk of TWC think about it and what your opinions are. It is a long read, but try and at least get the general gist of it before you post

Interesting read actually, I do agree sexuality and recreational sex is a by product of evolution. It is necessary for our survival so we've evolved to enjoy doing it, it makes sense. Eating and drinking are often the same (Oh how I could go on about how I love water) but in my opinion sexuality seems somewhat of an artificial concept. The fact that it is the norm to be either straight or gay is just absurd. I mean without social stigmas or societal norms there really isn't any reason for humans as a species to be mostly bisexual. Also the concept of limiting ourselves to a single partner at a time is really weird when you think about it, admittedly it does occasionally show up in animals it is less common than not. Humans even clearly have struggle (Albeit not always) with having a single partner long term.

However, purely from a (I want to stress this next bit) detached technical stand point being only interested in the same sex is a bit of an odd behavior. I mean logically as a species we'd want to reproduce and continue to survival as species etc etc however that doesn't mean homosexuality is wrong it just means it's unusual behavior.

tl;dr I think sexuality in itself is artificial and purely societal. I think sexuality is a taught concept and not something that occurs naturally and people identifying as being attracted to only one gendered are a by product of this.

(I do want to stress that I don't personally hold any prejudices against any sexuality, gender etc etc and this is purely from a conceptual stand point)

Welcome, but don't be fooled by our high brow reputation, there's plenty of ignorance here *raises hand*

However if I may give you a tip... Don't just regurgitate a discussion on another board without an explanation. Summarize it for us! Because A.) I'm not really interested taking time out to decipher a long convoluted discussion between two or more people without knowing why I should; and B.) I don't even know what questions you have about it or answers your seeking from it...
