    Default The Beta

    Hello everyone

I used to play 2.1 a while back on my old pc, lost my save games and never really got back into it because i saw 2.5 was going into beta soon so i was waiting but now im getting bored with my temporary games and my question is: can i download and play 2.5 now in the state its currently in and have a long, crash free (relatively) campaign like i could on 2.1 ? Or is there a high likelyhood that i might lose my campaign due to CTD at specific turns or battles? I haven't really been able to follow the 2.5 beta thread as i wasnt participating and had other things going on so im not really in the loop. Also it seems you've already got 2.6 sorted out from what i saw in the little sticky thread so is it going straight to 2.6 through the 2.5 beta or will that be released after 2.5 goes "live"? And is 2.6 save game compatible with 2.5 if i do decide to start up again on 2.5 now? I couldn't really find an answer for these questions anywhere using the search tools (Forum search tools are always awful)
Hope this hasn't already been answered somewhere and i missed it.
    Anyway thanks in advance.

Yes you can play 2.5, the people with CTD's if you checked the threads, you would find in most cases they are resolved or can be bypassed.
2.6 is due out soon, but there is no definite date. It may be save game compatible, you would be better to think of them as separate however and work on the principle they will not be.
I would suggest starting 2.5 now and not waiting for 2.6

Play 2.5 so you can dive straight into 2.6. No need to waste time learning the game in 2.6.

closing, but there never was a single game-stopping CTD that everyone experienced in 2.5. Those CTD's were uncovered in beta testing way before it was released to the public. 2.5 is stable.
