    Icon1 Future Generations

Ok, so I have this issue which many may seem to have. I get the perfect faction leader and heir to start off with. I build them up and make them damn near perfect and there is not one fault on their trait list. Then they have a child and they grow up. They turn out to be the most rotten people imaginable. How did my perfect Roman spawn a disloyal, horrible, and corrupt son. Then once he gets like this the future generations become stagnant or terrible. Any ideas on how to have sons with better traits in the game?

Too much money, probably. My FMs in the late game are distributed quite evenly when it comes to traits.

Make sure to use the elite schools and academies. If you own Athens, the Academia can give your FMs great traits, though I still send all my Roman FMs to Rome until they are 20.

Why don't you build the cheapest fleet, put all crappy sons in that single ship, sail it towards an evil pirate or enemy fleet and let them "take care" of your problem.

Then hope for better sons or adopt decent ones. Btw, iirc a general can only have 4 children (limited by game engine) - that includes daughters and adopted generals.

From what I saw in a simple makedon test

    1) none cheat used
    2) cheats used

When you cheat for you money, there will be a development towards bad traits. However if you have wondrous temples, schools and so forth, this tendency fades away.

Simple as that. I had dull FM that had more than 9 management marked points (scrolls), because I trained them in the spartan agogue, in there, there was a wondrous hermes temple, a top of the line school, and I sent those guys to larger cities to learn a few things more in different temples. I created monsters!

Off course there is always the odd ball, that will fail my expectations, thats why a lemboi is good vessel, coupled with auto defeat it simply works, or wait! there are barbarian at the gates! send him! how? Faramir style!

I can sometimes get my generals to have a good amount of influence, but even 4-6 years in the Roman Academy rarely gets more than 3 or 4 influence, and maybe 2 management. Not sure how to get more, but by the end of their life, practical experience usually brings them up to 6-8 of each. I'm almost always at a loss for good commanders though, aside from those who have just been fighting their entire life. Does anyone have tips on ways to get good leaders, besides better schools? IE: temples to have them in, do you put them in larger cities first or small ones and work them up, etc.

First of all, I usually have armies of 18 units with a general (so i can retrain in 2 turns). Now i usually max out Rome and send all my generals there for a couple o years (not radical but wait) AND THEN i put them as the 20th unit in an army and give them some experience conquering or governing a rowdy frontier settlement

@Casual Tactician hahahah I love your way of thinking..bastardes are thinking they are going on adventurous voyage and then they get raped and sold into slavery. I wish that could happen spoiled brat thought how to be a better person by living in hard conditions until they became a gladiators for some faction and they escaped leading unique band of warriors (you could choose to aide them in their escape and transporting their sorry buts back to Rome)...imagine that would be awesome

This question was a hot topic of debate circa 400 BCE, and whether virtue could be taught was one of the central themes of Protagoras.
