Default Will this AGP card work on my PC?

So, yesterday my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro died, when I turned on my PC, the monitor will show the Compaq logo and then stay black, but when I removed the Ati it worked perfectly, so I now have to get a new video card. My PC uses AGP. Here are its specs.

    Compaq Presario SR1303WM
    1.5GB of DDR Ram @ 400MHz
    40GB PATA HDD
    AMD Sempron 3000+ @ 2.00GHz (Equivalent to Pentium 4 @ 3.00GHz)
Power supply which says Output 250W Max
Windows 7 32-bit (Runs faster than XP actually)
Ati radeon 9800 Pro 128MB AGP (Died)

So, this is the video card I has been looking at , it is a EVGA GeForce GT 6200 with 512MB of DDR2. It is the best I can get since I dont plan to spend 80$+ on an Ati IceQ or Sapphire.

My main worry is that it says in the minimum system requirements that it needs a 300 Watt power supply and mine only has 250 watts (As far is I know, I know nothing of power supplies). Will the video card work on my PC? Thx.

Yeah...Time to throw that out the window and buy a new computer. Your just burning money by upgrading anything in that computer. I especially wouldn't trust an old 250 watt power supply to power a card that has higher requirements.

Yes your MOBO on this machine is 'ASUS A7V8X-LA' which has an AGP 8X slot for supporting 1.5V AGP cards.
And if it says 300W then use that only. In any case it depends on the type of PSU you have, that is how much actual power it actually delivers.

Anyways i would honestly do what jake said, either that or buy a PS3 instead to play latest games until you have enough money to assemble a new rig to play PC games.

Hmm, this is out of my field of knowledge, can you just tell me "yes" or "no" please? I dont have enough money to buy a new PC (Im only 15), my family PC is well capable of handling many new games on high without problem, but I cant play all the time on it, so I really want to get my PC in my room working.

Yes this card is compatible and will work on your PC but i'm not sure whether the PSU or power supply can kick it off or not.

And if i were you i would find a way to switch the PCs, high end one in your room and the this one for them.

Well, I have been looking around at the web and some people say that they have a 250W psu and that it runs the Geforce 6200 without problems.

Just wondering, my Ati 9800 Pro was capable of playing Minecraft without problem with graphics on fast and render distance on short (It had 25 FPS average), so since this card is newer, has PS 3.0 and 512MB I guess it should run Minecraft even better and lets not even talk about Rome, right?

Well, the next problem now is finding it cheap here at a store or if at the web, find somewhere which ship it for cheap.

Minecraft really doesn't care about your graphics card, its more memory and CPU intensive then anything else. You might notice a slight improvement but nothing drastic.

Well, I made some investigation and came to the conclusion that the GeForce GT 6200 wont be a improvement on my PC, so I made a small list of AGP video cards, and started to cross out until there was one left, it is the Ati Radeon x1300 Pro with 256MB, found it cheap, consumes little power and has much better performance than the GeForce GT 6200 and does not needs power supply at all.

Im going to reiterate that your just burning money by buying anything "new" for that computer.

Then I should stay with nothing? I guess having this old PC with an Ati x1300 Pro is better than nothing.

I must say that both Jaketh and Ishan are correct - your system is bordering on the ancient side. But as it's all you have at the moment let us try to figure out the cheapest solution to your problem.

That GPU will maybe work with an underpowered PSU but there are no guarantees that it will. But then again at $41 bucks that's not too bad an upgrade. If it works then you'll have your system back. If not then you have an old paperweight sitting on your desk.
At this point we have to delve into the philosophical side of it all - is it worth trying to fix an outdated and old system for the possibility of a few more months or years? If you feel it is then make the upgrade.

Another way to look at it - that system is close to dead. Might as well experiment on it and learn all you can from torturing it to death. I've burned out quite a few systems in the past by running them into the ground. Now's your chance to learn how to break a computer. Trust me - it is a good learning experience if you plan to keep this up. Good luck!

Actually I paid 14 USD for it ^.^

Well, I am decided to get it, because it is that or nothing, and my family is poor, so I cant afford a new PC.

Oh, and you really need to see the videos and letters on my PC, they are hilarious xD You can basically count the pixels on everything ^.^
