    Default The Swiss ?

I hope they'll emerge like they did in the first MTW especialy if the game lasts further. Did someone has heard any rumour about them ? if they miss this it'll seriously **** as they had a crucial impact on the warfare of the following period and the geopolitics of central europe.

Yeah, well what about all the other factions that should pop up? If the Swiss break away from the HRE, shouldnt the Burgundians become a faction too? And the flemish? And many others...

I too hope that MTWII is more open ended with this type of stuff, 20 factions limit is really far too few, the more the merrier. And they shouldnt hardcode all that type of stuff, but I guess they kinda have to.

Well there are swiss pikemen & im pretty sure the pope will be using them and maybe some other swiss units, but i doubte they will be a faction unto themselves, like ME1.

Yeah that would be extra work for CA so it won't happen.

lol, agreed. They couldn't spend a day creating eras so obviously they wont work on this.

Plus i would have killed CA's pets and kids if they hadnt made them a faction.
Their "features" in the game allready they announced makes me want to do it. Like their "wanting to move away from represenatation of time" idea. Obviously they dont listen to the fans, that is reason enough. Well i'm not a fan anymore so I dont count I guess.

You figured that out after 4760 posts? I've never heard you say anything remotely positive on the game...

Despite having lived in Switzerland for almost my whole life, I still don't think the Swiss would make a good faction. Up until 1848, the Confederation was just that: A loose alliance of cantons, including several cities. They would sometimes have a few fights between each other too, for example the Old Zürich War.

In any case, the Swiss were never a proper faction as such during the whole of the Middle Ages, and therefore would be best-off as rebels. As an alliance, they never really played an important role in European warfare and politics. Of course, that's not to stop Swiss units from being available as mercenaries, mercenaries who were prized throughout Europe as ruthless and skilled warriors and bodyguards in many a royal court. That brings me to one final comment: Why the Pope in particular? In the late middle ages and early renaissance, most kings used Swiss pikemen as bodyguards. The unit in the Vatican is simply the only such group of "Swiss Guards" remaining, and was by no means the only one.

I disagree. The Burgundian war was a major conflict with much importance and infact it changed the warfare forever.
It can actually be said that in the XVth century Switzerland was a regional power of much influence and the alliance with France was an important factor to make French forces able to achive such success in early part of the Italian wars.
Switzerland was rather more important than Sweden at that time and I believe that if it is possible to add it a skilled modder should do it, because CA most likely won't add Switzerland.:original:

i think if a new faction was to be added, i would rather see a more centralise one, or even perhaps an arab one ( not to give the game to much of a catholic europe feel to the game)

In XL mod, a mod for MTW, the Swiss is removed and only(?) Papacy gets Swiss Pikemen, Swiss armoured Pikemen and Swiss Halberdiers. It freed up a slot for some other faction. It's clever.

Lets not forget... in TW you make your own history.

Thus any nation not independant at the start of the game realy isnt justified.

Thats probly why scotland actualy is a faction this time round....

Plus i would have killed CA's pets and kids if they hadnt made them a faction.

Dont get your hopes up, the Swiss will probably not be in the game. As for being moddable into it as an emerging faction I believe this will be possible as I believe the Timurids will be an emerging faction. Hope mods can do this, as I would love to see factions like the Swiss, Swedes, Muscowny (or however you spell it), Burgundy, Spain, the Mongol Horde, Lithuania, the Ottoman Turks and whoever else emerged during the medieval age can emerge in future mods.
