Lack of variety and special use, this is a very fragile matter that decided if the gameplay will be good or not.
Having too many units that are too much like eachother takes away the unique feel of training different units.
If the attack stats are nearly the same for 2 different hoplite units then you will naturally get the cheaper one.
using these rough standards for different units I can show you what I mean:
*Attack
*Defending Skill
*Armor
*Moral
Athenian Hoplite:
*Attack - 5
*Defending Skill - 5 a well-rounded hoplite
*Armor - 3
*Moral - 3
Athenian Militia Hoplite:
*Attack - 2
*Defending Skill - 1 very poor hoplites, but cheap and large in numbers
*Armor - 0
*Moral - 1
Spartan Hoplite:
*Attack - 6
*Defending Skill - 5 extremly efficient hoplites, only setback is the weak armor!
*Armor - 1
*Moral - 5
well you get the point :original:
It should be like a game of chess, each piece has it's own advantages and place
