Default Medieval 2 Gold Edition Install Problems

So I have been having a major problem installing my Medieval 2 Gold Edition. When I first bought the game and installed it, it worked fine and I played it a lot with mods like Stainless Steel. But then my computer had a hard drive error and it had to be replaced. After this when I tried to reinstall it the installer wouldn't install the base game Medieval 2 Total War but instead only offer me the options of each of the four Kingdoms campaigns. I have seen others having this exact same problem presumably due to the fact that there are still files left over. After trying every single thing I could, re-installs, uninstalls, deleting every folder with the slightest bit of Medieval 2 in it, following every other fix, and trying to use Revo Uninstaller (which has worked before and did detect left over folders and bits of Medieval 2 lying about) it still will not install the base game. This problem is extremely frustrating and I have now gone and made an account on this forum for the sole purpose of getting some help with this. So if anyone out there can help me with this please do, because i'm starting to wonder if this game will ever work again. Thanks in advance to any kind soul who does take some time to try and help me.

    My Computer Specifications are:
    Intel i7 2.2-3.1
    8GB of RAM
    Nvidia 440m
    640GB Hard Drive
    Windows 7 Home Premium

Yeah I went through that one earlier pretty much everything that it says to delete was already gone except for one file. No luck though.

In regedit, the key words would be Activision, Sega, Medieval, for sure. If Steam version maybe steam, steampowered, valve,

Okay so I got my Steam version working, hard copy I have given up on, but after failing a few times at installing Stainless Steel and trying to clean install the Steam version to do away with that mod because it wasn't working properly, when I try to launch the game and the menu pops up asking which campaign you want Stainless Steel is still there as an option and the game starts to lag heavily after about 20 minutes of gameplay no matter what campaign I choose.

stainless steel shouldn't affect mtw2 itself, its completely mod foldered....
Now...when you got the new hard drive, did you reinstall windows from scratch or get it from the back-up?

Ok, this is what i would do, open your disk 1 (gold edition hard copy) cd in windows explorer, right click on the setup.exe file (its 445 kb and labeled application) and click run as administrator, this should start the install process manually. I'd suggest installing mtw2 to C:/games instead of program files so mods will work better.

Actually the hard copy just started working and I have everything going good with Stainless Steel and everything, but it still lags if I put the game on anything higher than low settings. Thats just wrong, my computer runs Shogun 2 on medium beautifully and used to run this perfect on high settings before my new hard drive. Is there anything that is affecting the game in some way because it lags like this in Stainless Steel, vanilla, and my vanilla version on Steam.

A quick question. When you say a hard drive had to be replaced was it the C:\ drive (with the OS on it) or another drive? What kind of hard drive have you now installed M2 and Kingdoms to - internal or external? Thanks for your answers. Good luck!

Is the game using the i7 or the 440M?

Check the game profile in Nvidia Control Panel.

I'll assume that you didn't replace the hard drive yourself? When you take a computer to a shop and ask for a new drive and for the contents of the old drive to be ported over to the new drive the Techs will make an "image" (essentially a picture) of your old drive and copy it to your new drive. Sorry for explaning if you already knew....

Is this what you did? It really would help to know. Thanks!

I might have found it, is it in the 3D settings change it from Intergrated Graphics to High-performance Nvidia processor. And to PoleCat a Dell technician came by my house and replaced it and just reinstalled Windows and the basic software again, I had to reinstall pretty much everything else and im not exactly sure what was ported over and what was left out.

    3D Settings, you have it.

May as well catch up on the rest of your updates, then, including

Be sure your copy og Windows is activated, again,
Run Windows Update and install all software options. Even in Win7, you'll be missing Service Pack 1 and all the updates behind it.
www.nvidia.com and try to update your graphics drivers.

Good for starters. Any more trouble, post your dxdiag.

It's supposed to use the integrated chip (i7) until it reaches a certain threshold and swith to the graphics crad. I have seen too many times in Total War games, set it yourself until Nvidia messes up the drivers and you're eirther playing on old drivers until fixed, again, or the integrated chip. In some cases the integrated chip is better than the graphics card. 105M comes to mind.
