    Default Feedback & Suggestions

You can use this thread to post general feedback as well as improvement suggestions for future lessons. If you have anything in your mind that you don't like - or something you like very much - don't hesitate to post it here!

Also if there is something you particularly would like to learn you can request it here.

    Regards,

Just did authorization also, there should be about 20 people who can post here now. Seems a few haven't applied yet.

If I may, I had trouble distinguishing some of the "before" and "after" shots because they were too far separated on the page, and I had to keep scrolling back and forth. Perhaps when you post the altered photos you could also include the "before" in the same spoiler or something. I don't know why I was having such issues but it was really bothering me.

Ah, this is a thing I couldn't realise myself. I'll update Lesson 1 and add those "before" images (they're now under the "after" ones). The later lessons will focus more on the result, not the before-after aspect, so that won't be a problem there.

    Thanks for pointing this out.

Everyone who posts those two required images will pass, but students can re-edit their work upon my instructions if they choose.

So, yes, you passed. And the last image was very good as I said.

Question; do we get grades of just "passed/not passed"?

Question; do we get grades of just "passed/not passed"?
This is a very good question which I have been thinking about for quite some time. At the moment I'm leaning towards the "passed/not passed" system. This is simply because it would be very difficult to grade you.

I can't rate you upon your artistical/editing skills, because you're all supposed to be newcomers to GIMP, and it would be only by subjective opinion of your artworks. So, no for this. Then I could grade you upon your "will to try" as well as general eagerness to study. However, measuring this would be very difficult and could even lead to several "grade murders" with several students getting an unfair grade. This depends on the variety of different grades - two or three grades might not be that big a problem.

Because of the reasons mentioned above I'll most likely just give you "passed" or "not passed", and perhaps give an honourable mention to some students who either have developed their skills very much during the course, or who have been very eager to study and try.

I would like to hear your opinions on the lessons and especially the visual lesson formatting. Should I bold the most important words, terms and/or tools? Should I use colours in a different way? Also, should I make the screenshots smaller (they're 1680 x 1010 now)?

As you understand my main goals are simplicity and clarity. What I should ensure is that the students are able to complete the lessons on their own. However, as I haven't written the lesson text in advance the schedule can get quite rough for me, and I can simply forget to mention something. That has happened on both Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 but it hasn't luckily been a big matter. Do you think I should explain things even more - do I help you enough in the lesson post itself?

I think Astaroth's excellent lessons on GIMP Basics Course (I) were a little more informative, although our style of teaching may be a bit different as well.

I wouldn't mind the screens being a bit smaller... Just so I don't have to scroll side-ways.

I wouldn't worry about the info, they haven't been major things and we've managed to get them sorted.

Nice to hear your opinion. Well, the problem is that if I rescale the screenshots their quality will suffer a little... And of course the need to scroll is dependent on your monitor. I have one with a resolution of 1680 x 1050 - but I don't know of you all - and I have to scroll sideways as well. If I made the screenshots something around 1000 pixels wide the quality could be good enough to read the texts in the screenshots but you wouldn't have to scroll sideways.

I'll see about this. It wouldn't be a huge effort to rescale the images of Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 neither.

We already have (yet quite flexible) deadlines:
Please post your results with the original images (again if you used other than those above) in this thread by Saturday the 12th of May.
Formally it won't matter if you handed the homework a day or two late without informing me about it first, but you would certainly feel my wrath for daring to do that!

The third lesson will have a considerably longer time to complete, though, because it will contain more information and homework than the two previous ones. This far I have given you some four to five days to complete. Lesson 3 can be completed in, say, something around a week.
