    Icon4 Serendipitous Promotion

Yesterday in a Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod campaign as Byzantium I had a level 3 Byz Cav. promoted from 3 chevrons to 4 after it had received replacements. I thought that I had seen this sort of thing happen before in the last couple of years. It may just be this mod. Before I thought that I was just not remembering correctly, but this last time I am certain. Has anyone else ever seen this? It could be due to my "possessed" Qosmio laptop. Could it be that such happens for the AI at times when a unit is so close to being promoted that when it gets the new men the total force's chevron value is rounded up from a fraction?

Everything related to chevrons is hardcoded so every mod or the troops in vanilla will behave the same way.
As for your real question i fail to understand what it is that you're saying\asking.

By replacements do you mean they were retrained or you merged another unit into them? If it was a merge then sometimes it happens when both units are close to leveling up. If it was a retrain then I'm not sure... perhaps you have some building which offers promotions up to lvl 4?

Merging can be quite negative as well, with units losing chevrons or even weapon and armour upgrades.

Sorry that I was not clear. The unit received replacements. I just had it happen again at another castle - only the unit went gold from 3 silver chevrons. I had been shuffling several 6-chevron units back and forth but could not get one promoted to gold by doing such. I am sure that the computer keeps track of all the chevrons, armor an weapon for each man in the game. Could there be fractions and rounding up causing this. What else could it be. It is not my damaged keyboard as I just replaced it a few hours before this happened. Maybe this was the same possessed unit; it could be. I don't keep track like most of you do.

Again ! On turn 53 during the building phase at the end of the turn I had an 8-chevron Byz cavalry get promoted to level 9 chevrons at the beginning of the turn. I distinctly remember this because I had two such Byz cav. units in the castle and could only promote the one. Unglaublichhhh!

The later recrutment facilities add experience (chevrons) to new units. You said the unit received replacements - if you add replacements in a castle with one of those facilities (eg the jousting field or Earls Stables - the higher the level, the more experience gained) and your unit has not been upgraded before, then you are doing two things at once - adding replcaments and upgrading the unit experience. Just remember when upgrading a unit not to reload the game before the end of the turn otherwise you may pay for the upgrade but not get it - always do that sort of thing as the very last thing before hitting the "end turn" button.

No; that has not been a factor. I just had a level 6-chevron fire ship get promoted to a level 7 upon receiving replacements. It had had only 6 or 9 ships in it.
