is it possible to give ships combat bonuses when loaded with marines? i dunno if this is possible but it would be extremely cool and would make marines actually serve a purpose.

Sorry not that I know of, but marines are assumed to be shipboard men on land so the UI cards will show the ships loaded with them and sailors, helping you get that ingame feel
