Default Requesting Nominations for a third player in SWAP game

    Hello all.

Willowran and I intend to play a SWAP game in the near future, and post the results in this forum. The objective (other than just plain having fun) is to produce a thread which can be used as a tutorial for RTW players wanting tips on playing a VH/VH campaign with one of the harder factions.

For those of you who do not know: A SWAP game is like a succession or Hot Seat (HS) game, played round-robin with a small number of players. Each team player gets many (or at least several) separate chances to directly influence the campaign.

The faction we have selected is Gaul.

One of the features of a SWAP game that makes it "tutorial-like" is that we have a small number of players working out strategy and coordinating as a team, in the forum. This allows all who have an interest to see the considerations which go into winning on VH/VH.

I did a Greek VH/VH SWAP Game, with Severous, about six years ago. It was a grand experience. However, the one thing which I disliked was that the posting was so labor intensive that I could not keep up, and Severous finally had to finish up the game without me. To spread things out a bit, we have targeted for three players. (We have a third in mind, but the invite, so far, has gone unanswered.)

The bottom line (and, finally, we come to the point of this post) is that given the choice of 2-3 players or 3-4 players, the team consensus is the latter: We need another player.

This post is an invite, for any who feel willing, to nominate a player for this SWAP game. You may, of course, nominate yourself; and nominates may be either in this thread or by PM (if by PM, please PM both Willowran and myself).

But, before you nominate anyone, please honestly assess the nominee against what we are looking for in a team mate:

1.) Someone who is comfortable playing on VH/VH difficulty in VANILLA 1.5 RTW. This might mean, for someone who is otherwise exceptionally well qualified, a person who has lots of experience winning on H/H (or higher difficulty) and is looking to step up in difficulty.

2.) Someone who is a team player. The kind of person who can humbly take (and kindly give) constructive criticism in a public forum, implement a team-derived consensus on campaign strategy, and who is otherwise well-received in the RTW community.

3.) Someone who has the time, willingness, command of the English language, and willingness to learn anything else it takes to play approximately four to six campaign turns (2-3 years) of RTW and post a quality summary (including pics as appropriate) approximately every two weeks.

4.) Someone with the integrity to abide by house rules. Whatever they may be. Like not toggling fog-of-war. And not replaying battles, except in exceptional circumstances, per previously agreed rules.

5.) Oh, although it is certainly not a requirement: Willowran and I are both admittedly not very aggressive in the campaign portion of the game. I think that my demonstrated average fo somewhere around 90 campaign turns is more aggressive than Willowran; but not nearly like Severous, who won the Greek VH/VH Long campaign in 31 turns, despite my "help." Nor, I'm sure is it nearly as aggressive as GotR's short campaign "speed run," which he completed in six turns. So a player with an aggressive mind-set for the campaign, would be nice.

For each nominee, I will take you at your word on Points 1, 4 and 5, but will do some in-forum research on Points 2 and 3.

Again, we are looking for just -ONE- more player. And it is not "first come - first served:" we are looking to produce a product as much as play a game; so demonstrated writing style and team spirit counts for at least as much as player skill.

Although we are only looking for -ONE- more player, if significantly more express an interest, there is nothing to stop a second game from starting.

We are looking forward to hearing from the community.

    Thank you.

Surely there is someone who wouldn't mind being the third?

I am considering tossing my name into the nomination. I will reply to each of the points very soon but I am in the middle of some Dostoevsky and about to boot up my Medieval II which has been neglected in some far corner of my hard-drive for far too long.

    VikingOfSixth,

You were nominated by another forum member, and vetted, before this thread was started. Heh, heh, heh, do you read your PMs? I know, I know, you've been away from the forum for a short hiatus. Welcome back.

To others: Viking has not actually accepted, yet; so nominations are still open. And maybe there will be enough (you really only need two, as Severous and I demonstrated) for a second game...

Im happy to help with tactics and such if you reach a point your having difficulty with ive completed gaul VH/Vh 2-3 times but i havnt played vanilla for close to 3 years now so im not really set to play it again im to used to the mods ive been running and most of the tactics that have become standard to me would likely be a disaster on vanilla.

Coming up with a specific tactic to fit a scenario is one thing im excedily good at.

( Ive also completed rome , carthage , greece ,macedon , britain and the germans on vh/vh )

Other nations like parthia and selucids ive done on h/h but it was so patheticly easy i never saw the point in going further.
I am the shadow, and the smoke in your eyes I am the ghost, that hides in the night.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
    we shall fight in the hills;
    we shall never surrender.

    " The dark is generous.
Its first gift is concealment: our true faces lie in the dark beneath our skins, our true hearts remain shadowed deeper still. But the greatest concealment lies not in protecting our secret truths, but in hiding from the truths of others.
The dark protects us from what we dare not know.
Its second gift is comforting illusion: the ease of gentle dreams in night’s embrace, the beauty that imagination brings to what would repel in the day’s harsh light. But the greatest of its comforts is the illusion that dark is temporary: that every night brings a new day. Because it’s the day that is temporary.
    Day is the illusion.
Its third gift is the light itself: as days are defined by the nights that divide them, as stars are defined by the infinite black through which they wheel, the dark embraces the light, and brings it forth from the center of its own self.
With each victory of the light, it is the dark that wins.

The dark is generous, and it is patient.
It is the dark that seeds cruelty into justice, that drips contempt into compassion, that poisons love with grains of doubt.
The dark can be patient, because the slightest drop of rain will cause those seeds to sprout.
The rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, for the dark is the soil in which they grow, and it is the clouds above them, and it waits behind the star that gives them light.
    The dark’s patience is infinite.
    Eventually, even stars burn out.

The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins.
It always wins because it is everywhere.
It is in the wood that burns in your hearth, and in the kettle on the fire; it is under your chair and under your table and under the sheets on your bed. Walk in the midday sun, and the dark is with you, attached to the soles of your feet.
The brightest light casts the darkest shadow.

The dark is generous and it is patient and it always wins – but in the heart of its strength lies its weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back.
Love is more than a candle.
    Love can ignite the stars."

    You began the war.

I am going to end it!
