Macedon or Greece in the campaign?

I just want opinions. Fire away!

Greece - Powerful , resistant hoplites , very weak cavalry.
Macedon - Light but good phalanxes , very powerful cavalry

In the campaign , either you choose , you'll have to face the brutii. But with the right tactics you will easily overcome them.

In my opinion Macedon is awesome because of their colours

I like going hammer and anvil so Macedon seems like a good choice!

I have forgotten the Royal Pikemen. Use them wisely and even though they take 2 turns to recruit , they are the elite phalanxes.

Speaking of Phalanxes , the best in the game are like this , from good to awesome

I find Macedon a more enjoyable faction. Light Lancers are hilariously fun.

In general, I'd say Carthage's Sacred Band are the best, followed by Armoured Hoplites, Spartans and then Royal Pikes. Spartans would beat any of them in a one-on-one, but they're not worth the cost and difficulty in retraining IMO. Armoured Hoplites would eat Phalanx Pikes for breakfast and are much more resistant to missiles. There is also a difference between Pontus' Phalanx Pikes and those used by other factions (Greece doesn't have them btw).

Spartan Hoplites are undeniably the top phalanx troop in the game. Two hit points and a 17 attack Phalanx... that's more than twice against other phalanxes.

Sacred Band is a phalanx unit. It should be a part of the group. They are a top phalanx unit, making silver shields and pikemen units shrink in fear from their amazing damage and armor.

Pharaohs guards are god-awful troops. Worst elite unit in the entire game. All egypt has are Pharaohs bows abd chariot swarms

But then again the royal pikemen are retarded strong. Protect their flank and they are unstoppable. In siege, they are gods. Put them in a street or gap in the wall and watch the enemy die.

Id rather do Macedon. They have good cav and I have always loved cav more then infantry

The thread is too old to give a response to OP, but just for the sake of opinion:

In terms of more powerful military power in campaign. I would say Greek city states. Yes, I know, they don't have anything formidable except for strong hoplites. Cavalry can run down routers at it's best and heavy peltasts are just useless then it comes to actuall killing. Now some might argue that they need to be properly deployed, but I would choose for additional hoplite unit anytime rather than having peltasts occupying the slot.

So why greece? ... simple. Armoured hoplites from 6000 pop cities. At early stage of the campaign those guys are gods. They simply overpower everything your opponents have to offer at that time. While macedon are stuck with mediocre phalanx.. alltough light lancers are lulzy one shot flankers to use.

Armored Hoplites are the only thing Greece has that is money efficient. Their Spartans have too large an upkeep, despite Spartan way of life (abandoning luxury). Armored Hoplites are good, but Macedonia has too wide an arsenal for Greece. They have Light Lancers, Companion, Macedonian Cavalry, and not to mention their Royal Pikemen. I'd take Macedon for the sake of versatility any day.

In multiplayer, I'd say Macedonia is preferred over Greek City States.

Macedon, because their pikes are longer than Greek spears, making them unstopable in a head-on attack.

No lol. They're a lot less armoured than the Greek hoplites.

they ARE less armoured, but if you tap "backspace" when deployed, the greeks will not be able to get close enough to USE their pikes... therefore their armour becomes moot.

I'd say, best pikes (worth mentioning) in the game go (from best to worst):
Sacred Band (great stats, but super cheap to recruit)
Royals: (Good stats, huge spears, Lotsa troops per unit)
Spartans: (worth it despite their cost)
Bronze-sheilds/Silver Sheilds (aren't their stats the same?)/Pharoahs Guards (theyre not THAT terrible...)
