Perfect your mohawks and sharpen your studs. This is a thread for discussion of Punk Rock, and all of the genres upon sub-genres upon sub-sub-genres it has spawned.

Punk Rock, Pop-Punk, Post-Hardcore, Hardcore Punk, Skate Punk, Horror Punk, Ska Punk, Alternate Punk, 'Emo', from The Sex Pistols to Blink 182, from Black Flag to The Misfits, it's all good here.

So what's your favourite punk or punk influenced gem?

    Jealous cowards try to control
    Rise above
    We're gonna rise above
    They distort what we say
    Rise above
    We're gonna rise above
Try and stop what we do
    Rise above
When they can't do it themselves

We are tired of your abuse
Try to stop us it's no use

    Society's arms of control
    Rise above
    We're gonna rise above
    Think they're smart
    Can't think for themselves
    Rise above
    We're gonna rise above
    Laugh at us
    Behind our backs
    I find satisfaction
    In what they lack

We are tired of your abuse
Try to stop us it's no use

We are born with a chance
    Rise above
    We're gonna rise above
I am gonna have my chance
    Rise above
    We're gonna rise above

We are tired of your abuse
Try to stop us it's no use

    Rise above
    Rise above
    Rise above
    We're gonna rise above
    We're gonna rise above
    We're gonna rise above

Now that's what I call ing punk.

I haven't been here in a while, but I'd thought I would post in on this one. I am a punk rocker from the days of old . My favorite bands (not in any particular order):

    Rancid
    NOFX
    Bad Religion
    The Vandals
    Pennywise
    Bad Brains
    Circle Jerks
    The Descendants
    Dead Kennedy's
Dropkick Murphy's (maybe first two albums)
    Suicidal Tendencies
    Sonic Youth
    Operation Ivy
    Subhumans
    U.S. Bombs
    The Casualties

Geezzzz...I guess my list would go on and on, so I will stop there. Too many to name.

Great list man! Those bands are what I listened to during 90% of my teenage days. I still listen to them now and then. Sonic Youth, even though is more like an alternative rock, still had some punk moments for sure.
    NOFX for the win!

I still have love for the skate punk/pop punk of the 90's and early 00's. These were the first actual bands I'd ever heard as a young kid, and I would never have branched out into the older punk bands, or other genres like metal and hardcore if it weren't for these guys. I'm talking about Sum 41, The Offspring, Goldfinger, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Blink 182, etc. They were my 'gateway bands' if you like.

How can I forget Minor Threat? While I am thinking about Minor Threat, I should mention Fugazi, as well.

    Can't get enough of this.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Oh!
    Stand down
Manifesting a destiny of unavoidable doom
Black wolves are gnashing at our heels
Fangs of accountability all unforeseen or intentionally neglected?

    Oh!
    The degradation of a home
    Humanity sits on its throne
Cover your eyes and ears and know
    We can't escape the consequence

And now the rising of septic tides as refuse litters the Pacific Gyre
We continue to drown the ocean in its own waters
    Stand down, stand down
    Time's out now
    Kill like we know how
    Killing like we're allowed

    Oh!
    The degradation of a home
    Humanity is so lost
Cover your eyes and ears and know (without remorse)
    We can't escape the consequence
    And everything's ending

    Make way
A failed culture makes its mark existing only to destroy what came first
    With no regard for creation
    Men play God
    Drop unstoppable bombs
All institutions are wrong, but none of them will ever stop

    Make way for man (x4)
    Bombs away (x3)
    No escape

Now turn the other cheek and pretend
Full speed to hatred forcing life against its will
    Full speed 'til we're dead
    We can't escape the consequence

    Oh! (Bombs away)
The degradation of a home (Bombs away)
Humanity sits on its throne (Bombs away)
Cover your eyes and ears and know (Bombs away)
    We can't escape the consequence
    No escape

I'm not sure putting the word 'Punk' on the tail of every genre of music makes it punk..

Traditional Progressive Rock Underground Irish Folk Punk...
