    Hey I'm studying closley at the calvary weapons in this game just wondering about the historical reason and accuracy.

    Why do Heavy calvary such as the Grenadiers and Curisaseers carry strait blades while the the light cav are armed with curved ones?I checked wikipedia, Before I thought all swords in the Napoleonic era were curved. The officers in the game like Napoleon tend to carry a strait sword is this historically accurate?

    Cavalry swords were basically of two types:
    1. a curved version which was designed to cut - it usually had a sharpened edge and used with a swinging slashing motion;
    2. a straight narrow bladed version with a sharp point, and blunt edges - designed for use in a stabbing motion. Heavy cavalry tended to attack with the sword arm raised and stretched out in front of them with the aim of giving the enemy the point.
    Like all of these things there were exceptions as some swords combined characteristics of both types!

    Giving the point tended to kill more people than the slash - there were a number of encounters in the Peninsular war between British cavalry with the curved sabres & French Dragoons with the straight pointed blade. While the French Dragoons tended to be terribly maimed by the slashes, the British ended up with more fatalities.
