Default Co-Op announces boycott of produce made in West Bank settlements.

Personally I think this is very good news, as it could perhaps limit some of the economic benefits that the settlements have for potential settlers, and as I've been told by a couple of Israelis on this board that the economy plays a fairly big role when considering moving to settlements, I think it could help reduce the number of settlers.

I doubt it will do anything. It's too minor to do any damage.

True in itself, however, it might cause a chain reaction, lots market chains might also add or join the boycott, and I'm not sure on west bank export figures to the co-op, but for all we know it might have some affect. At any rate, it is a strong symbolic move that will likely increase lobbying to other super markets to boycott west bank exports.

Well, see it this way. The goods that illegal settlements can provide is very little and the world market is gigantic. There will always be options. Maybe they'll find a market chain that's owned by Jews to simply cover all the goods. Even if that fails those goods can still be sold to Israeli interior market completely.

Gotta agree with you that it's too minor and that they can easily find replacements for the goods, but the news shows a growing awareness of the illegal settlements problem. But still better than nothing I guess

Boycotts are extremely hard to maintain. I also don't think the environment is optimal to start a substantial one right now. Furthermore, watch what happens when international Jewry turns the tables and begins their boycotting campaigns. Jewish-led boycotts are notorious.
Once a political decision has been reached to proceed with internal disturbances in Syria, CIA is prepared, and SIS (MI6) will attempt to mount minor sabotage and coup de main [sic] incidents within Syria, working through contacts with individuals. Incidents should not be concentrated in Damascus. [A] necessary degree of fear, [...] frontier incidents and [staged] border clashes [will] provide a pretext for intervention. The CIA and SIS should use [...] capabilities in both psychological and action fields to augment tension. [Funding should be provided for a] Free Syria Committee [and arms should be supplied to] political factions with paramilitary or other actionist capabilities.

Ah, Maddox. Timeless internet hero. You should buy three, though. Since that way it becomes smarter for the boycotters to buy if they want to make a dent

Phier I think you'll find it hard to differentiate between an Israeli Colony product compared to others. Besides, you're not a chain of supermarkets.

I don't really see the point, it's clearly just a publicity stunt. I don't see why Israel has to build colonies but really it's done a lot worse things, why take it out on the Israeli people just because they need new housing.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

The Israeli people are not forced to settle in illegally occupied territory. They do so by choice. So, they're party to the violation.

You know that only the west bank settlers are being boycotted right? Not normal Israelis.

Because the Government are forcing Israelis to move their by constructing new, and I assume cheap, housing:

These aren't people who simply need somewhere to live - I'm sure there are plenty of housing developments within Israel. These are people who have made a conscious decision to build a home on land owned by the Palestinians in the West Bank, because they know that the government will probably legalise the development sooner or later, and if they don't, they're doing god's work anyway so how could they be wrong? These settlers are in no way innocent, and your trying to portray them as such shows a very poor grasp of the situation.

I agree, real-estate there is a hot commodity, every inch of land has a rather high value to it. The Israeli settlers understand this very well. Of course, they could get an apartment in Tel Aviv, but by making such developments in these areas they are doing what a colonist would do and in all trying to secure as much land as they can for the Jewish state. This trend has been going on for decades and the hunger for land in that area is hard to satisfy.
