Locked Graphic Options

Some of the graphic options have the box checked and are locked preventing me from unchecking them. Is there a way to unlock them?

You have to click or disable some of the other tickable boxes and then it becomes available. Same thing with me. Click on particle effects or something like that.

Hmmm. I did that but it still didn't release them. I'll try again. Thanks.

Didn't work. I even tried to go in to the preference script files and change them, but that didn't work either.

(sigh)

Are they greyed out? Which options are locked?

All but two are grayed out and they are checked. The grayed out ones are:

HDR
Volumeteric Effects
SSAO
Hardware Shadows, and
Depth of field

Your graphics are crap. You don't want those options anyway if you want playable fps and they are probably locked because you lack the hardware grunt. Buy a 5770 at least.

I agree with you, my graphics are crapt. I'll be upgrading in the near future, but I will not be buying an ATI product. I would add further that all ATI products are crap. I had no problems when using Nividia.

Yeah no nv products run hot cost more and i've used ati forever and never had any problems. The reason your graphics are crap is because its a crap card not because its ati.

I dont know man, maybe your graphics card doesn't support those features. Have you clicked on custom settings? Latest patches? Updated graphics card drivers? Try asking in the technical section.

I know, it's the strangest thing. But it's not so much they are grayed out, they are grayed out and checked at the same time. I want to uncheck them to turn some of them off.

I had ambient occlusion greyed out and checked, but when I enabled particle effects it un-greyed itself.

Did it do it immediately after you enabled particle effects?

I wonder why mine won't do that. By the way, eventhough it's grayed out and checked, when I view in the preference script it says "false" - not enabled.

Yup! It's greyed out so you can't enable it. Yup, immediately!

Ah, had the same problem, you will have to change a line of script in the preferances
Go to: c:\user\name\appdata\roaming\the creative assembly\napoleon\scripts (or depending on what type of computer you have just locate the preferences script) and go into the preferences script

Change the line that begins with gfx_video_memory to (copy past this over the whole line of text): gfx_video_memory 536870912# gfx_video_ memory <int> overide available video memory (bytes) #
once you do that you should be able to play on ultra graphics (assuming your computer can handle it).

No one even comments on my solution to the problem?

I use nvidias gtx 580, never have problems running games. Its relatively pricey, but worth it to run all games practically perfectly.

When I upgrade my system, I'll keep that one in mind. Thanks.

Same here.
You can't disable SSAO and Ambient Fog at the same time. One of the two have to be checked. Impossible to uncheck both.
