    Default Hotseat Campaign

After running around like a chicken with my head cut off, i have finally zeroed in on a means to play a hotseat RTW campaign. I have not tested it, but apparently it works. Anyone want in?

If anyone wants to join in, please lemme know which faction you want to play as, so i can do the necessary scripting to open that faction. Entries are due in one week, after which the campaign will begin.

    I'm thinking Long campaign, H/H.

    The Script: http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?64876-Play-By-Email-Multiplayer-Hot-Seat-Campaign-Release

    Extra Rules: Definitive
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    -No Console cheats
-No more than 3 chariots can be used against any one human opponent at a time, discounting generals.
-Only autoresolve battles vs a Human opponent. Battlemap is allowed vs an AI faction.
-Screenshots must be made of the results of any human-human conflict. You may do whatever you want to hid your HUD, so long as the battle results are visible.

    Pontus: ______________Alexandros
    Britons: ______________VikingofSixth
    Greek Cities __________ CCGR1121
    Spain: --------------------spare

    Administration/CheatReporting
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
If you suspect a player as having cheated, please tell me. I will keep an archive of all turns played in the campaign (up to 10 turns deep at any time). I will load the turn where the cheating supposedly took place, and play things according to rules. Results will be screenshot. If they do not match what happened in the campaign, the hotseat will be reloaded from where the cheat took place, and the game continue from there. If you have been caught cheating multiple times, you will be booted.

If I am too close to a faction where the issue is taking place, in the interests of fairness, i will ask someone else to perform the cheat-test, so tht i do not gain any game-information that could give me any unfair advantage.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Please do not join in unless you think you can see it through to completion, or find a replacement, as i don't think there is a way to drop players.

The hotseat script (from the generator) is uploaded below, as the generator does not work on all versions of windows.

Much the same as in a M2TW hotseat campaign, with slight variations.

1: You will have to reset the script at the beginning of your turn (will explain once the game gets started, its not complicated, though).
2: When you're playing your turn, the AI will be controlling everyone else's response to your turn (fight or flight, diplomacy etc). As such, a rule will be made to only autoresolve battles against human controlled factions, unless both battling parties agree to allow a battlemap.
3: as the ai will usually decide your factions response to diplomacy, human-human diplomacy shold probably be done via PM-ming here on the forum. This does, of course, offer a whole pile of more diplomacy "options"
4: The announcements on the side of the screen which appear every turn are disabled by the script. As such, you will not be notified when construction is completed, when you're besieged, when generals die...etc.
5: senate missions are also disabled by the script.

If you don't play your turn within 24 hours, you will be subbed. Please lemme know in advance if you can't make it. If the campaign has already started, and you want in, lemme know, and you can be the "sub" if a player is absent for their turn, or booted due to lack of "attendance"/breaking a rule.

If anyone has any proffered "house rules" for this campaign, post 'em, and they could be polled for a consensus decision.

Alright , I understand now , and I also have a suggestion We should all get together on a day ( take saturday for example , at an hour that is convenient to everyone . ) So , if we get together , we'll play that day so we won't play without eachother.. It wouldn't be fun that the idiot AI or another sub changes your plan and so on.

Also , how do you start the hotseat?

This looks interesting. Hopefully, since my exams will be finished within a week, I'll actually have free time to do stuff, such as playing hotseats. Can I reserve The Greek City States?

As for house rules, can we simply say "No Console Cheats"?

Since you're going with autoresolve, I would suggest making nations with chariots unavailable, as they tend to screw up AR (I've heard, I never use autoresolve). Not sure if there are other units that can do the same.

I can see when I'm being singled out , and because I had a break of life I was just about to go grab that save and take my turn

I'll not deny you passed through my mind , but it was not just you. Mithridate quit that same succession game, and in the succession game id been a part of prior to that one nearly everyone bummed out. In a succession game that's not so bad, as someone else can just keep playing the campaign. But in this version of a hotseat, once a human's chosen a faction that faction (i think) has to be played through to the end... (I'm still aquanting myself with the scripting for the hotseat).

We should all get together on a day ( take saturday for example , at an hour that is convenient to everyone . ) So , if we get together , we'll play that day so we won't play without eachother.. It wouldn't be fun that the idiot AI or another sub changes your plan and so on.
what did you mean by this?

the ai can't play peopels turns, they just play reactions , and there's no way around that. Its a bug... but then again, RTW was never meant to be played as a hotseat
When your turn comes up, the game is posted and we just wait till you play it.

So far as a sub changing your plan... well its possible. but you have 24-48 hours between turns to play your turn, so not being subbed shouldn't be an issue. If you're assigned a sub, just pm them and let them know what you're planning...

Playing all on the same day, same time will be a hassle... i mean, i live in canada, eastern timezone. I know people on the net who live in england. I know another who lives around bc. With so many different time shifts, getting a common time to play when we're all online would be...difficult.

Since you're going with autoresolve, I would suggest making nations with chariots unavailable, as they tend to screw up AR.
Actually, that is very true... chariots DO tend to win nearly every single autoresolve battle they go into. I wouldnt say they screw up the AR... chariots tend to win every battle on the battlemap too (in a field) . At any rate, he brings up a good point. Chariots would have to be limited... say 3 for every front or something. I wouldn't ban them completely... they're so much fun

also, how do you start the hotseat?
That will require some scripting on my part. For you guys, all you have to do is click a couple buttons in-game to reset the script. Its kinda complicated to go into detail... i'll go more in-depth once this gets started--i'd be too lazy to type it all twice.

An ideally every faction will be played by a human. On the other hand... that likely won't happen.

Ok then How much time do you suppose this will take?

And also , I have a question. I have modded my copy or RTW a little bit , that meaning I added a unit of archers for Carthage (Poeni Archers) and Heavy Peltats for Pontus. Will that be inconvenient? Also , Large , Huge walls give happines bonuses.
Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack !

You should remove the heavy peltasts for pontus and take the bonus away, as hiring the peltasts will make other peoples games crash and the happiness bonus could be considered unfair. But aside from the crash because ofn hiring peltasts everything else would be fine.

Oh right. If you do not know what it is:

Hotseat Campaign: is a multiplayer campaign, with humans controlling various factions. eg: I controll the senate, you (vlad) could control carthage, and alexandros could control pontus... After that it just rolls like a normal RTW campaign. You play your turn, end it, and the next turn is played by a human or ai respectively.

@alexandros: I would install RTW to a different folder if i were you... it would probably crash the game. but best we resolve the issue now, rather than later. Speaking for myself, i have rome: total war copied into several different folders, so that i could play several different mods.

Hey, Bonez, you a part of this?

I haven't decided if I'm going in or not yet. I may if I get a link to the script and you need players.
