Adobe Flash & Adobe After effects are the only ones used extensively by professionals. After effects is an overkill though. Toon Boom Studio is also quite famous. Btw you're talking about 2D animations right?
What sort of animation you're going to do? I do some small things on Photoshop CS5 like making gifs for example my signature and stuff.

YesBtw you're talking about 2D animations right?i just want to make small animations usually stick figures acting out like a small scene, like at school [ where we have adobe flash, for some reason] i put Ainsley harriets head onto and octopus and had it killing my friend.
