Once upon time in Myr (Closed RP)

OOC: Meaning of this RP is another attempt to seek and join Golden Companies. Closed to me and Moderators (mainly Barry)

After Jaime had recovered in Qarth, he departed to Myr. In Myr Jaime had a tour around the city, and saw plenty of Golden Companions around the city.

Late afternoon Jaime had gone to the Barracks of Golden Companions he saw earlier this day. When he entered the Barracks he saw plently of men training, and noticed a 'leading character' present as well.

Jaime eyed the training men and noticed they weren't professionals. He approached the man in charge and spoke.

"Looks like you could use here more experienced pair of hands."

[Barry Goldwater]

"Oh-ho? Is that what you think of our Golden Companions in training, my man?" The Company instructor asked, an eyebrow raised and a grim smile forming on his face. "And what experience would you be bringing to the table, exactly?"

One of the Company trainees shouted mockingly, "Bet he has plenty of experience cleaning stables, we could use a man like that after our old stablemaster keeled over and died from the stench!" The Company men at present all shared a hearty laugh.

Jaime smirked at man's reply

"Swords, spears, lances.. I handle 'em all. Also I'm experienced in using heavy armor."

[Barry Goldwater]

"Yeah? From what? Don't tell me all you've done in life is practice, practice, practice. We've got no room for green nobles who've practiced all their lives but never actually fought a battle, you know. You got a war record?"

[Clagius]

"Indeed I do. I was in the 'War of the Usurper".. Also.. *he sighs* I used to be a Kingsguard. But that "noble and glorious" life is long over.. I was born a warrior, not a pity noble."

Some of the younger men in the room begin to whisper amongst themselves and nod approvingly, but the instructor and the older soldiers aren't impressed. "Really, now? So have most of our younger soldiers, you know. And on whose side, really? Don't tell me you're a Kingsguard who turned cloak when the Tyrells stabbed the Mad King in the back."

[Clagius]

Jaime calmly answered

"I served Targaryens and I was exiled for not bending a knee to my little brother, yes.. King Tyrion is my brother. I tried my best defending the King after I retreated from battlefield, but there was too much of them.. rebels."

[Barry Goldwater]

Now everyone was whispering, muttering under their breath, and pointing fingers at Jaime. Even the instructor appeared to be more than a little surprised, though his shock soon gave way to measured suspicion. "Jaime Tyrell, is it? And how do we know you aren't actually an agent for your little brother, here to spy on us or something?"

[Clagius]

"I was exiled, half of Westeros knows that and please do not call me Tyrell. I stopped using that name ever since.. It's Lyon now. I hate my brother, I would NEVER serve him!"

Jaime seemed to be little furious because his loyalty was questioned.

The man stared, long and hard, into Jaime's eyes before nodding lightly. "Fine, fine, I'll give you a chance. Just one. And if you even think of betraying us, we'll do what the Mountain Men do, chop your manhood off and feed it to our goats." A harsh laugh went up from around the room. "Steffon! We got us a newcomer, give him your traditional welcome!"

A tall man with a closely-trimmed beard and hard eyes stepped out into the training arena, clad in platemail that bore the marks of several battles and wielding a sword in one hand, and a heavy shield decorated with the Westerling arms reversed. "We got another trainee to break in, boss?"

"Damn right we do. Alright 'Lyon', get in there and show us what you're made of! You get a choice of equipment, but that's it. And if Steffon Hill over there carves you up like a turkey, your problem, not mine."

A pair of Company servants roll out first a scarred light brigandine accompanied by a light nasal helm, and then a suit of old platemail complete with a close-helm that appears to have been partially caved in by an enemy's warhammer.

Jaime smirked

"Very well. I am fine with my own equipment."

He was wearing plate armor and bastard sword on his back, he now unsteathed it.

"Ready when you are."

Steffon pulled his visor over his face as Jaime unsheathed his blade, and dropped into a combat-ready stance. Only two seconds passed in silence between the two fighters before he bulled forward, bellowing behind his helmet, sword swinging in hand.

His blow landed right across Jaime's chest, staggering the former Kingsguard and leaving a mark on his armor.

Jaime quickly hopped aside and swinged his sword to Steffon's stomach.

Jaime's thrust forced Steffon back, and left a new dent in his already battered and aged armor. Not to be outdone, Steffon brings his sword down on Jaime's head...

Misses Jaime

...but the momentum of his attack carried him too far, and his blade sails just past Jaime's ear.

As Steffon's swing missed Jaime, he took advantage of it and swinged his sword sideways to Steffon's waist.

The blade catches Steffon across the waist as intended, knocking him away from Jaime and leaving a deeper mark in his armor. He retreats, his breathing increasingly ragged, and pulls up his visor to throw a look at the instructor that all but screamed 'Alright he's a tough bastard, are we about done here?'

"Keep fighting," Was all the instructor said.

Some of the other Company soldiers and recruits were cheering Steffon on and encouraging him to keep fighting, as well. "Kick his arse, Hill!" "Give 'im a taste of our Bitter Steel!" "Well don't just stand there, kick the outta him for the Seven's sake!"

Hill pulled his visor back down and rushed Jaime again, now thrusting toward his chest.

The blow knocks Jaime back and into a barricade, and Steffon retreats only to allow himself an opportunity to raise his shield in anticipation for his opponent's next blow.

Jaime pushed himself from the barricade and swinged his sword handle to Steffon's neck, hopefully knocking him down.

Encouraged by the crowd, Hill blocked Jaime's attack with his shield, then followed up by pulling his shield to the left and with it Jaime's sword arm, giving himself a clear shot at his opponent...

Hill's forceful follow-up blow was true, catching Jaime across the chest and knocking him to the ground.

Jaime quickly got up and rushed towards Steffon swinging his sword to his chest.

OOC: I think you forgot to add my 'duels +2' in previous roll.

Hill defeated

Jaime's blow catches Steffon just as he was getting ready to deliver a finishing strike of his own, hitting him with such force that he fell to the ground himself, gasping for air. He pulls his visor away and shouts, "Alright, alright, you win! Seven save me..."

While Company squires pull him off the arena, the instructor and the other trainees are utterly silent, their lips silenced by shock. Finally the instructor speaks slowly, "...So you beat Steffon Hill. Very well, very well...I'll concede that you know your way around a sword, at the very least. I'll ah, put in a good word for you to Sergeant Mudd, and we'll see where you go from there."
