    Default Display Settings

Hey guys, looking forward to exploring this great mod. I have a couple questions:

    1. I'm wondering how much option there would be to change some of the contrast / brightness / or color schemes in the campaign window? I play on a 43" big screen TV so I suppose that might be part of the issue.

The scrolls, the bottom HUD where the city elements are displayed and some of the edge boxes in the HUD are all rather over-exposed looking, sort of like they are glowing golden yellow. Looks pretty good on some screens but in general it makes the game rather unpleasant for me to look at and I kinda miss the vanilla color schemes for the campaign screens.

I did inadvertently click that Bloom setting thingy and it was worse. But I then realized what I had done, turned off and restarted without the bloom box selected in the initial launcher screen and it was still quite a problem.

    2. Just a clarification about the start date on the Rome campaign with this mod and the extent of Roman geographic / political power. 539 AUC is what? Just about 213 BC? So the 2nd Punic war is 5 years on at the outset of the campaign? I don't know my history that well so I'm guessing that the extent of Roman dominion is quite accurate with respect to real history?

One last one (that I'll probably figure out on my own just by restarting with different settings)
    3. If I start with the Alexander engine will that load up an Alexander Campaign starting just after he assasinated his Daddio?

The Campaign opens in 217 BC, on the eve of the Battle of Lake Trasimene. Rome's political/geographical/territorial power is historically in line with their position at this time.

Using Alexander utilizes the features of Alexander on a Grand Campaign starting in 217 BC.

No, that just uses the better Alex AI and fixes some issues with unit behaviour.

No, you are not alone, because the effects are noticeable even on smaller but more modern monitors. The problem is that RTW was written at a time when screen resolution was limited to 1024 x 768 or very close to that, and video cards were junk compared to nowadays. The resolution of the files themselves.....the ones that compose the menus, unit cards, building cards..in general, the UI....is limited to 24bit tga's, and you can't use anything else. They are also limited in size, so they display properly in the allotted space.....which means, if you blow them up on a large screen, they get 'grainy' and look bad. I know exactly what you mean, and this was discussed during developement of RS2......unfortuantely, the game just doesn't allow a way around it.

Well not many people play of a 43" TV I imagine, on a regular 21" monitor it looks just fine. You could try asking in the RTW tech help rather than here as this is more likely an issue with the game as a whole than RS specifically.

You're probably using some bloom though for that.
Either remove it from the launcher, or if you want to keep it during battles, use + f12 to enable/disable it.

Hmm, looks like a visit to the opticians is in order then as mine looks fine and it is relatively new! Oh well, sorry for misleading you

Actually, whilst you may well like the look and feel of some of the better games on such a big TV; it would be worth also confirming what native resolution that TV has and whether your video card can use it. Either way, and also dependant on at what distance you view things, you are probably seeing too much of the effect of the individual pixels.

This may simply be a case of bigger not being better.

What you can also try is the colour, brightness and contrast settings on the TV itself, but that may require tweaking for everything each time. You should also look at the screen display settings; I know that mine has an: Autoview; Standard; Movie; Dynamic; and even a Game setting - I would investigate those, for they do quite a lot for brightness and contrast particularly.

    Thank you so much gentlemen

Yes The old Panasonic is a bit of a mixed blessing

With games like Fallout3 or Mount&Blade Warband it is rather fantastic I think. Sort of like participating in your own action adventure movies.

With games like Civilization, or RTW, not so great.

I do notice it a lot more with RSII than with vanilla, but I think it might be the bloom got set on and not back off or something. I'll try that F12 trick to see if that helps. Also will check on all those other settings you mention ur-Lord.
