Default Just an update on what has been happening..

I know there are some issues with RS2.5....that's why it's just a Beta release. But I am hoping that the next release will be the 'real deal', so it's taking a bit to sort some things out. But, here's at least an update on what has been fixed so far, and\or changes made.

    1. There will be two versions of the script as alternates. One will feature less emergency levy units and less garrison units with all experience and upgrades removed. The second will feature all garrisons removed (only the emergency levy armies of RS2.1a).

    2. ALL faction class triggers are now fixed and working as they should, thanks to 'ur-Lord Tedric' who pointed out that they were NOT working at all....to my dismay.

    3. The Celtic hillfort has been fixed....well, the pathfinding, anyway, is a ton better as units can no longer approach and get caught on the walls.

    4. The 'Economic' trait and faction leader standing traits and associated traits have been reworked some, and are working much better. Descriptions have been changed, and they make more sense now.

    5. The trait that prepares Roman Governors for rebellion has been unhidden, and what is going to happen is now explained in full detail. It sorta gives the whole deal away, but there was too much confusion over what was happening without this.

    6. Loyalty and how it is 'dished out' (or not) has been changed. Now, Senators who approve of the FL will have increased Loyalty, or if they disapprove, they will lose loyalty. Loyalty was also removed from a number of traits where it just didn't necessarily make sense to give out disloyalty or loyalty bonuses. Also, setting taxes to Very High will eventually incur the wrath of the people, and your Governor will start losing loyalty. It will be ok for a few turn to gain some extra cash if need be, but after that the piper comes for his pay.

    7. Roman military ranks have been gone over extensively (still working on this to see that all is well), with many corrections and fixes. Tribunes should now become Legates after the Reforms (if they are Patricians), or progress in the Equestrian military or civilian careers as they should. A new trait: 'Roman Cavalry Decurion' has been added for Equestrians, who then progress to Tribunes before the reforms.
Many other fixes to Roman military leadership being tested and watched.

    8. Roman cavalry has been reworked in light of some new research and ideas\input. Rome will no longer have access to the Campanian Cavalry in Capua. The reason being that the Capuan revolt happens very quickly, and historically, the Romans crushed this revolt and wiped out or enslaved the Capuans. The Capuan Campanian cavalry would then no longer exist, so it's silly for the Romans to be able to recruit them. The unit 'Latin Medium Cavalry' has also been changed and redefined as Roman Equite Extrordinarii....at this time in history reflecting that the Equestrian Class...or Roman Knights, had been nearly wiped out in the 2nd Punic War. So the unit will be recruitable ONLY in Rome, and cost an arm and two legs. The 'normal' Roman Equite has also been changed to reflect that these men are now 'The First Class of Commoners'....Roman citizens who have volunteered to serve as cavalry because it is more prestigious than serving in the infantry. This more historically represents them. The Romans will have access to Gallic Cavalry in northern Italy as a supplement to their own, and to a new unit that replaces the redundant 'Praetorian Prefect', called 'Allied Germanic Cavalry', in regions on the other side of the Alps. The cost of all Roman cavalry has also been doubled or more.

    9. At present, it seems that the various map CTD's we were having have been fixed, but I have asked a player who is having issues with CTD's during battles to test something for me to see if it is related to this phenomenon that was not present in RS2.1a. I'm hoping it is NOT the issue, but who knows.

    10. Fixed an issue reported in the Forum...but whose cause escaped me until 'ur-Lord Tedric' pointed it out. The top level bonus description for the Economic balance trait was using the first level description by mistake...therefore incorrectly reporting that that your economy sucked.

    11. Fixed an issue where all Spartan characters go through the Agoge and pass. Thanks to 'Lostsoul' who sent me triggers that fixed this.

    12. Added an alternate 'ambush' formation to the formations_ai file alternates for Alex. Fixes CTD in Alex when an army is ambushed.. Thank you 'Resef' for posting this fix.

    13. Weakened the indestructible elephants.

And, there have been numerous other small fixes here and there as people have reported them. So I'm hoping the next release will have a clean bill of non-CTD health, and please 'most' people. But it will not be save game compatible, so I'm waiting for the rest of this stuff to be fixed.

Good job on those fixes. As I said in an earlier thread can we have a trait for family members of the bloodline or at least some way of knowing?

I think he means...a trait that tells you whether that character is related by blood - probably to the original faction leader/family.

Much like with M2TW Stainless Steel - ''(named character)'' is related to the royal houses of etc ....

They've got something like it for some factions like the Belgae, but I soon lose track of it.

Just a suggestion, it could be made that descendants of the rulers will result in the native people being more tolerant of their governance, and foreigners less so.

Yes correct. Just a simple system like that of Stainless Steel. Example a descendant of William the Conqueror would have the trait English Blood, this man is a direct descendant of William the conqueror. Perhaps a +1 influence to for this. No doubt being a descendant shouldn't make you a better general but it would definitely give you more influence over others.

    I have a suggestion.

When playing Sparta, the governors you recruit come out of the barracks as Spartiates, thus making them great generals but they are unable to learn governor professions and as I've noticed they aren't great at keeping the peace in the settlement either.
If you keep a family member out of the city 7 turns and he finishes his agoge and fails it, then he's a perioikoi, and it's suggested to use him as a governor, however perioikoi as a base have -4 to influence hence making them poor governors, at the very least in newly conquered provinces.
How about introducing a new type of general that is aimed directly at governing, without the -4 influence nerf, or maybe change the perioikoi trait stats?

That's a good point. I have reduced the influence nerf to just '-1'.

What a shame to see the Campanians go. They were battle wining units for the first stages of the game.

And that's part of the issue. They were also too cheap as well.

Hi all, I would have liked that hastati differed from the princes since apparently they are all princes do not know if at that time was well but is just an appreciation, but as you say above are the bosses.

For 'flavour' perhaps, but the Hastati & Principes were armed the same (weapons and training, not necessarily the theoretical armour); they were used tactically the same; and they were recruited the same. There just isn't any reason to separate them. If they were differentiated ever so slightly and, if we believe Polybius' detail, we perhaps gave the Principes a +1 armour and perhaps a +1 morale (these were the experienced soldiers in the prime of their lives), then it would just mean players had only Principes and no Hastati.

The 'fun' is in hoping the units are accurate enough that the game-play is as good a simulation as possible, so that the challenge is to see if you can lead your troops to glory as the ancient generals did. Not get the 'flavour-of-the-month' 'uber-weapon-of-doom' and effectively 'cheat'. 'Fun' is not the word I would use to describe that.

what you say is true, I began to see again the book by Peter Conolly in the Legions of Rome and I could see that some mods hastati using chest plate are really princes or are relidad hastati of the time Camilo and chainmail are princes or hastati from the time of Polybius, many garcias reason for me to enter this regard, tube always this doubt fortunately this is a very good forum in which you have taught me many things, mod is excellent and we hope many in Latin America I can not imagine the rest of the world there is a difference of heaven on earth compared to others, sometimes I try to play other for a change but I immediately return it to RS2 beautiful units are not go into more detail, in fact the only thing that game and I do not like any other video game only Total War (Rome), thank you very much for helping me clear my doubt.
    Greetings.

I liked that Campanian cavalry scared infantry. I'll miss them.

Question: what local units will be available in Capua before the reforms? In the rest of southern Italy, there are Greek slingers, Cretan archers, Samnites, Lucani and maybe others I'm forgetting. The only thing Capua could recruit was the Campanians (besides troops from client barracks or oppida), so will that be replaced with something else?

I really like the stuff Chris10 did, and in a few instances included changes he made (and I think Tone may have used some of his ideas. I wish he had time to be on the team and help out. Unfortunately, he uses a lot of scripting that I'm afraid is just over my head.

Thanks for the reply DVK901! only reason i mentioned those scripts, is because i do like a hard grind and slow expansion fighting these lovely well made factions around me as rome, but i do also understand most people like a slight easier game of being able to achieve some ground within a certain time period, but i guess it really does come down to preferance of play. I think it would be really neat to see these features, aswell as Chris10 joining the RS2 team

Thank you for such a great mod! and continuing all this hard work for many years! I love it so much, and have had so many epic battles and roleplaying as the legions, by far the only total war mod, alongside TATW that i can truely call difficult, your expanded the limitations of Rome:TW hugely and i hope, if a Rome 2 ever gets put into the pipeline by CA, that they look very closely at this mod when doing so imo!

btw @ Lord Dakier, i tend to use my assassins for snuffing off enemy diplomats, spys or assassins, trying to snuff enemy Generals as always been tricky business, and sorta prefer it that way, since i dont like loosing my favourite Generals to a assasin when on campaign But there really neat for stopping diplomats from buying off your armies not present with a General
