French trading district ??

Started a campaign (shimazu) with the intention to accept the French trading district this time . I declined America and Britain already 2x , they don´t seem to bother asking anymore and I haven`t got a message from the French at all (I´m already way into the game). Does it mean I have to go without any foreign district for the rest of the game and can only certain factions have the French district?

I believe the French are exclusive to the Shogunate factions. If you want, switch sides and you might get an offer from them.

Yes. British exclusive to Imperial side, French to shogunate, American can go to either side.

yea same happened to me but hopefully i saved all turns and these turns were peaceful ones (saving money for my republic) so i just loaded an older savegame

What are all the differences betwen them btw ?
I know obvious ones like you may get different western units, but all together what is different if you accept Britain for example instead of US (I only had US in my last/first FOTS camapign)

Good to know. I always wondered why am I not getting the French as I always play on the Imperial side, never on the Shogunate side. Even if I play as Aizu, Jozai or Nagaoka, I always switch to Imperial on the first turn.

BTW, are Gatling guns exclusive to America only? Or can you get them as British or French as well?

You can research and recruit Gatling guns no matter whether you accepted American, British or the French as partners. Gatling guns, just like Artillery and Japanese rifle infantry, are researched and built "domestic". The only units depending on the trade districts are the respective Nanban infantry and ship units (e.g. the Royal Marines and the HMS Warrior for the British trade district)
