Default great mod, question about modding this mod

hello. first of all, great mod. i wondered if i could ask a favor.

id like to change the xgm spartan units that use the phalanx to using the sheild wall. i think i simply need change "phalanx" to "shield_wall" in esport_descr_unit.text, but im not sure if thats all i need to do.

also, id like to create a unit that uses the the official alternate peloponesian spartan model. I'm not sure of all the details envolved in creating a unit, but perhaps just editing an existing unit into using the CA spartan would be best. i have the stuff downloaded for this and placed in the xgm folder already.

or perhaps, if the phalanx spartans look the same as the shield wall spartans in xgm (i dont know yet), how would i go about changing its model to the CA peloponesian model?

one last question, if these changes are done, will i need to start a new campaign or will the one i have already work?

thanks for any help. i realize this may not be the correct place for moding questions, but i figured since it pertains to this specific mod, it may be ok to ask here. if its not, then i apologize.

Replacing phalanx with shield wall will work if you are using the BI exe. Changing the skin and model for an existing won't cause any problems for saved games. Check the articles area here for a guide to using new skins (there is also a very good guide over at the .org).

I have just bought ATW, purely to indulge my Alexander complex, and was wondering if you could advised me about making some changes. I have been playing a lot of XGM and really love it so would like to make ATW play more like it, specifically:

    1. Inc range on javelins and give them ‘effective against armour ability’ as in XGM.

    2. Reduce movement rates and fatalities like XGM.

Can these changes be made to other mods?

Also is it possible to import/export units from ATW to XGM and vice-versa e.g. replacing units with other game’s ones or adding new ones to either game?

Finally some more XGM related q’s. Can units in XGM be altered in a minor way without much hassle? (I have neither the skills nor programmes to mod things) E.g. increase ‘Light Lancers’ upkeep as currently v.low, change unit names or alter stats? Can certain units be made available to other factions or made as regional specific troops e.g. make Thracian Cavalry recruitable by all factions if control relevant map areas etc?

Thanks a lot, I have had much fun playing this mod and am very grateful to all involved.

Yes, you can add, ATW units into XGM. You can tweak, the text files to change all kinds of things, and it's very easy.

Cu Chulainn adding units is little more difficult than changing stats. for the stats you basicaly need to work with export_descr_units file in your xgm data directory. as for tutorials- check here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28 and remember the first rulle of modding- Always backup! or at some point you'll have to reinstall

Thanks Kara, found some useful info from your link about stat changing. Cant find info about Incresaing javelin range and making them effective against armour or reducing movement rates and fatalities though so would appreciate pointers on how to do this in ATW.

Ah, ok. To make them affective againest armour and increase their weapon range you can edit that in here, "export_descr_units.txt".
