In the end i discovered that 100 turns was plenty (on VH/H btw). I completed it in 60 but could have done it in 40-50 but i spent a lot of moves trying to avoid tedious battle that auto-resolve would screw me on.
I started off with one stack (Alexander) and struggled with money, as i took my first cities and went down to egypt the gits stole them back. Hence why i had to go back up before moving on. By this time i had a second stack!!! I used this as a cleanup (taking back cities, killing rebels and small annoying armies) this stack was used to destroy illyria. I continued with good momentum only sieging near empty cities in an attempt to avoid sieges and stick to the battlefield. i used a semi circle (and even a full circle a few times) of phalanx units and stuck cav in behind for most battles. With my other stacks it was more a straight battle line with peltasts behind. As you can probably see (if you can follow the real route of alexander and my expanded mini map) that the route i took was interestingly similar (well the start at least). I really enjoyed the campaign. Some battles became a bit tedious and i was gutted i didnt fight the indian elephants in the campaign but oh well.
Anyway this is my campaign by screenshots:
