Default How does XP and difficulty work in SS?

    Hi,

I can see units who have different levels in XP but same stats - so what does XP do?

what happens if I put campaign difficulty on H or VH?

    Thanks a lot ;-)

Xp adds +1 melee per 3 levels so if unit has 3 melee it can get up to 6 by level 7. Xp also affects accuracy for.missile units slightly so a high xp archer will have slightly more kills than a fresh recruit. Far as I can tell difficulty does not affect xp gain. It is based of killsbto.unit size so cavalry gain xp very fast, archers and elite infantries next and low tier infantries usually gain the slowest since they die more than they kill.

A higher campaign difficulty affects the boni the AI gets. It will get more money and therefore will be able to field more troops. It will also be more agressive.
XP also give a morale bonus to troops, they will have to lose more men before they rout.

XP is definatly worth it when you can get/keep it on units.

Campaign diff is far more important as the AI will be far far more difficult on "very hard" then on "medium"

no I understood - was just my conclusion - but does 3 points more attack with gold chevron really make a that it is worth to retrain units with those far distances between cities and castles?

You forgot the morale and the better accuracy and nobody haven't even mentioned that experienced units can also fight and run longer without getting tired. These things truly are worth it!

Thought you have to think by yourself is it worth to move them across half map to get to fight... Especially keep in mind your resources and how fast you need your men

Well understood. People will have personal opinions about this. My personal opinion: It's not worth it. Often it seems more effective to me to recruit new units than to move depleted experienced units over long distances to retrain them.

That's the basic rule. However, if you use BGR IV, you will often be forced to go into retraining, because entire new units are not readily available. And... against all odds I will generally try to retrain my experienced units anyway. Dunno why, probably emotional attachment (we have fought so many battles "together").

Unless are units that are more AOR based, you should be able to retrain units at forward castles where possible. highly recommend that. As well as retraining high xp units armour and/or weapons during lulls between wars.
