    Default SS6.4 City Growth

G'day. around turn 100 of my early era campaign, english. (hold the Isles, french channel coast, scandinavia, hamburg, cologne.)

I've noticed that my cities aren't growing to fast... London for example is stalled at 19400 population (the next break is 19500) and an administratively minded governor can't push the growth rate past 0%. I have all the farms and bake houses. I also noticed that when i conquer AI towns their populations are magically way more than mine, and they don't even have their farms developed.

Plz help! how am i to boost pop growth?

    Cheers

Is there plague in your cities? Also, how is the religious % and your relationship with the Pope?

Look in city details for any settlement and you should see what is holding back growth.

Sometimes you may need more entertainment or larger garrison.

All as Duck of Death as stated, what other traits does the Governor have?

It's pretty normal for the settlements to grow slow, this is how SS is meant to be; nevertheless, maybe it is a little bit odd that you have 0%, check settlement details and figure out what's going on there.

Look, in my current english campaign Rennes also has 0% growth (because look .... 7,5% squalor lol), but I'll quickly deal with this problem building an Abbey and the Council Chambers (the Abbey gives 5% health bonus and the Council Chambers gives 10%) so the growth will be positive again (at least +0.5%).

But most importantly ! always be sure that all of you governors have HIGH CHIVALRY, this is very important as chivalry points of the governors boost the population growth. Look what happens when I send in a high chivalry general:

    Daaaaaaaaamn, 2% is something.
    I hope this helped .
Also, you all know the AI is retarded so he has some advantages over the human player, including increased population growth for his settlements, but you can use this against him later in the game for example when for you it's very very hard to get a citadel, so you'll just let the AI build one (with his huge population growth bonuses) and then conquer it.

Yes it is all about chivalry for growth, A huge number of my current cities are sitting at 19,000 with every improvment built. That last 500 is impossible without a 4 Chiv general in all but the wealthiest of provincess. And growing to Huge is even more challanging. It's part of the difficulty that was added to SS. You have to choose wich regions matter most and cater to those. Or conversly, stay small until the AIs all hit huge/citadel then go on a conquest spree.

Current game, Id recomend turing all those conquests into cash, hole up on your island, and let the AI's do the work for you.

Sell regions off after you dismantle military buildings, or even gift away for improved relations. Then simply bide your time.

What the others have said already. Also note that the "administratetively minded" trait does not influence city growth. It only influences how quick a governor will likely gain more administrative traits (which, in turn, can influence growth). There are several traits and ancillaries that boost settlement growth, eg the trait "active builder" or the "architect" ancillary. Note that many ancillaries can be passed on from one general to the next. So if you have someone with the "active builder" trait, give him someone else's architect, and he will become the city booster. Make sure you never loose architects, they are very valuable for city growth (give 1% extra). If you send a general into the field, or if he gets old, pass the architect on to someone else. Also be sure to set taxes to "very low".

If you post a screenie of the settlement details, we can all develop your city of London together. That would be fun.

How can you pass ancillaries on to another general ?

In the same settlement, have both character cards open alongside each other, click and drag

Very true. They don't even have to be in a settlement, I think. It is sufficient if the two generals are in the same army in the field. To prevent confusion: You have to drag the ancillary icon from one general's personal detail screen onto the other general's unit card. If you succeed, a message icon will drop down on the left. If the ancillary is not transferable, you'll get a message like "But Sire, that is impossible!". Remember the maximum number of ancillaries is eight. If the recipient already has eight ancillaries, move one he doesn't need to someone else.
