Default 'Creeping Sharia' trend shows what Twitter thinks of the EDL

Apparently this trend started when Tommy Robinson mistook the Taj Mahal for a mosque .I hope this makes people realise that the EDL have and will always remain a joke, not to be taken seriously.First they claimed that there were "Muslamic ray guns" and now this .

Tommy Robinson, the founder of the English Defence League, got more than he bargained for when he started the Twitter hashtage #creepingsharia, writes Matt Warman

The Luton-based politician, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, wrongly identified the Taj Mahal mausoleum as a mosque when it was used on the Twitter homepage on Sunday night. He tweeted “welcome to twitter homepage has a picture of a mosque. what a joke #creepingsharia”.

Although the original tweet was “favourited” a number of times and retweeted more than 50, the overwhelming reaction of the social network was to mock the idea. By Monday evening, #creepingsharia was still attracting widespread derision.
Earlier, the EDL had attracted attention for being linked in a report by Hope Not Hate to the actions of Norwegian killer Ander Breivik. Robinson’s tweet attracted attention in part because many people were already talking about Breivik, but it remains unusual for Twitter to pick up on a trend through via humour rather than abuse. Celebrities including Stephen Fry have previously threatened to leave twitter because of the sometime hostile approach of its users.

Encouraged by comedian Richard Coughlan, however, #creepingsharia became a way to ridicule the EDL, whose sister parties were at the same time praising Breivik’s blogs as “full of facts”.

The director of Hope Not Hate, Nick Lowles claimed that “the 'counter-Jihadist' ideology” of groups such as the EDL inspired Breivik and “gave him the reasoning to carry out these atrocious attacks”. While he pointed out, however, that "Breivik acted alone”, Lowles claims the UK is one of Europe’s most active “anti-jihadists” states, with 22 operational groups.
Paul Weston, of the British Freedom Party, which recently signed a pact with the EDL, claimed in an interview, “You may find the truth hurts, but it is still the truth. I read the blogs themselves – they contain facts about Islam,” he said.

He added that Breivik, who is pleading self-defence and made a Nazi salute in the courtroom, would have found it easier to justify his crimes if they were perpetrated “against Muslims”.
“Whether you like it or not, that guy was pretty smart... What he did is despicable, but he managed to make people curious.”
Twitter itself, however, seems largely to have decided that the Breivik-inspiring EDL is a force to be laughed at rather than reckoned with.

    Shows their level of intelligence.
"I have always held the religion of Muhammad in high estimation because of its wonderful vitality. It is the only religion which appears to me to possess that assimilating capacity to the changing phase of existence which can make itself appeal to every age. I have studied him - the wonderful man and in my opinion far from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Saviour of Humanity. I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it the much needed peace and happiness: I have prophesied about the faith of Muhammad that it would be acceptable to the Europe of tomorrow as it is beginning to be acceptable to the Europe of today." I personally tend to be wary of groups like this, In the early 20's the Germans sent a lowly non-com to check out a noisy inarticulate group in Munich. Then well all hell broke loose.

I love how people constantly compare any right wing group to Germany or the Nazi's, the Nazi's were left wing, Facists are populist Socialists.
All you have to do is to decide what to do with the time given to you.

One could argue that the far-left and the far-right are virtually the same in all but name. There are many parallels between Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany. Both countries were under a dictatorship of the proletariat, the sate controlled and restricted people lives etcetera.

Why not it is not exactly a complicated formula.

    1. Take a hyper patriotic stance
    2. Find someone to blame for all your countries ills
    3. use violence as necessary to gain notice
    4. publish a quasi intellectual manifesto that becomes best-seller.
    5. make alliance powerful group who helps fund you
    6. gain legitimate control through Democratic institutions

They got 1 and 2 down and usually thats as far as these groups ever get, it doesn't mean they aren't similar either left or right. I know little about the EDL, we have major political parties treading close to the same rhetoric which concerns me rather more than these guys.

The EDL have Nazis and other sundry racists amongst their followers. It is a matter of fact, not a comparison. The forum archives has sufficient direct evidence from a number of debates if , for any reason you doubt this. One of their Norwegian comrades is on trial today, you should be aware of that.

I noticed the crescent moon the other night. Bloody Muslamic sky

Ever noticed that the net-abbreviation "lol" looks like a domed mosque with minarets?

So you think to be racist you have to be right wing?

Far right views and racism generally go hand in hand.

    But not always.

I've met plenty of far-leftists who are quite racist, though they are being a bit more subtle about it.

And there are plenty of moderates.

Plus, there are varying degrees of racism.

    Bollocks.

To be racist you have to post racist stuff on YouTube, twitter or facebook, assault people and damage property on the grounds that they ( or the property owners) look vaguely Pakistani, advocate the removal of civil rights on grounds of race or nationality, and , of course to support such people, either materially or politically.

Which begs the question, what the hell was Lord Pearson doing as leader of UKIP last election?

My issue is not the effect on Neo-Nazis, they have always been racist, but the uncritical support these dangerous nutters receive from people who should know better.

I cant think of any right wing racists I know, I can think of plenty of Labour voters who are racist and many want to socialists who are racist.
To say Racism and right wing people go hand in hand is quite a silly arguement.
Starving your population to death and Left-wingers go hand in hand.

I see that you dodged my point.

Racists are people who conduct racist acts. I am mindful that New Labour did little to curb Islamophobia and the racism arising from that when it was in office, indeed one suspects it suited its agenda, one arguably illegal war to fight and all.

But as I said before, what the feck was this?

Any how, I guess that some people, perhaps including (tongue in cheek) Lord Pearson above, really do beleive that Mosques are simply housing those Muslamic Ray Guns which will force us all to surrender to Islam. Here is one.
    those beardy Muslims....

That's just an idiot, plain and simple. Both racists and non-racists can be one. It's just the extremely racist ones often have amusing (I mean that in a loose sense) things to say.

Racism can be plotted on any point of the political spectrum. It just usually surfaces on the Right. And if there's no right-wing racists, what the bloody hell is the EDL then?

And seeing that the BNP were found guilty of breaches of the Race Relation Act in the Courts, end of argument, methinks.
