Default weird foreign veteran retainer: "glass plate camera"

it gives your FV a 5% greater chance of being killed in 1v1 combat. that had me puzzled, since i'd rather he didn't die and would like the chance of him dying to be less!

what advantage is to be had of taking it this retainer?

fwiw my other choice is "dreyse needle gun" which gives +5% to rifle reload skill

I've never picked it, but I wonder if it unlocks the option for a potentially awesome retainer for the next slot?

    Seems too risky to test!

I just don't take it. Why would I want to have a FV that's easier to lose? Usually there is a far better option to choose from than this one.

I somehow want to think its just a typo and it means it boosts your agent's chance to kill someone else by 5%

There are negative retainers - guess keeps you on the toes as you make your choices...

Guess camera means that the FV is acting more like a tourist / glory hound instead of keeping the mind on ze waghhr.

Something along the lines of "Scottish Tourist" - slows your army down quite a bit.

Well, maybe if he has a -7% to army movement trait and you want to get rid of him honourably in 1v1 combat, the retainer could come in handy. Or you could do it the easy way by putting him on a ship that "accidentally" sinks in the sea.

Yes, that's what I thought too - he'd be taking a photo, not paying attention to what's going on around him and... bang, boom, slice. You're dead!

And I agree that it does keep you on your toes to have negative aspects for possible retainers.
Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out...and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel. ..And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man"-- with his mouth.

It increases his chance of dying in single combat.

Not from assassinations, and it includes single combats he initiated.

As for "Keeping you on your toes", I once got the choice between the hungarian phrasebook and the glass palted camera.

I think that is the purpose of the bad retainers, when you get to choose one less troublesome for you from the two of them.

Still better than the automatically spawn bad trait, like "heart-sick" inheritance decease that stick with your entire family tree.

I'd way rather have the bad traits.

That's the main thing I miss from the older TW's. The trait system was so much better.

I think the bad traits modifier should be hidden. What`s the point revealing what the numbers actually do? It`s illogical and stupid. I would actually have liked it and probably chosen one if I didn`t really know what it did and find out bit by bit. It would be realistic, as you never know what bad luck a guy might pick up till later. Lost opportunity there.

If the game didn't tell you what they did, you'd well... never know what anything did. Would then make the entire system pointless.

Unless you're one of the people who meticulously tracks every possible variable you can think of, and then can notice something like a -7% change in campaign distance, for example.

    .
Rubbish. i`m not talking about the entire system, just those little traits you get. And if I have to explain why then there`s no point in me explaining.

Hungarian phrasebook = great Monty Python reference!
"There are seven emotions: joy, anger, anxiety, adoration, grief, fear, and hate, and if a man does not give way to these he can be called patient. I am not as strong as I might be, but I have long known and practiced patience. And if my descendants wish to be as I am, they must study patience"

It's a mistake in the description text.
It actually gives +5% chance of surviving single combat.

to which I put the question - how the blazes will the camera make singles combat easier? Unless I'm to understand he's using the flash to put his opponent off.
