    Default Earlier Version of Rome

First off, yes, I've read many threads about this problem. I am still having problems. My problem is, my Rome Total War disk had an unfortunate accident. Better yet, the same day, a bad mod installation forced me to re-install Rome. Too bad for me, I broke the disk. So I hopped on Amazon and did the buy and download, when I went to install it, I received the message saying, "An earlier version of Rome was detected, cant install til its removed blah blah..."

So I uninstalled, deleted the folder, the whole thing. I got the message again. So I did a google search and stumbled upon this.

I did everything, except, as far as the REGEDIT goes, whenever I did a search with the values that were suggested, sometimes I would get massive amounts of files that had names representing what looked like someone had a seizure on their keyboard. I figured it best not to tinker with any of those.

As far as when he says to check:

    C:\Documents and Settings\(your computer username)\Application Data
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings

I don't have the slightest clue where to find those.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I did my homework on the subject and it has gotten me nowhere. Thanks in advance.

http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_...ry_cleaner.htm is what I use. CA's uninstaller never did remove the registry keys.

I'm awfully frustrated right now. So my Rome Total War Disk 2 is broken, as I already stated, but i just popped in disc 1 because sometimes computer games gives you option to install or uninstall upon inserting the disc. I thought maybe that'd do the trick, I put it in and alas, I was not given the uninstall option. But my curiosity got me, and I pressed install on my disc, and it worked. Of course I canceled it because I lack disc 2. Why did it work for my disc? Is it because my new game is Gold Edition instead of normal Rome?

Here's the run down: My disc based game is "Rome: Total War"
The game I have now is "Rome: Total War - Gold Edition" downloaded off of the Amazon store.

Was the fact that I have that copy of the game vital information that I left out? I'm trying everything here, I tried that registry cleaner and while it cleaned, I got no results. On the second link, my computer didn't find a RomeTW.in file. I deleted those entries from the registry, but I'm still receiving the message. I'm going to restart my computer for the 3rd time and elaborate where that has gotten me. Thanks for the help so far though, I appreciate it, your saving me from a headache.

Edit: Well, I restarted the computer to no avail. I'm completely lost, I have got to be missing something here.

Was the disc breaking the only mishas or did the game crash while you were trying to reinstall, also?

Like it or not, and I don't really like the option as I have done it a few times on other programs, use Regedit.

Be sure to back up the registry first.

Key words like Rome, Activision, Sega, Creative Assembly, Barbariann, etc. It will take time to seperate the wheat from the schaff, too.

Activision, that was it right there. Activision, that one key word. Thanks a lot, I was starting to lose hope. I deleted it out of the Registry Key and the installation is running smoothly. I appreciate your time. +Rep to you.
